I'll be building some new stabs for the new one. I have these covered and I don't like the way they cameout. I have done some further study and Chuck is correct. I need to have the stab pivot a bit more forward in the stabs. Where I have the pivot mounted in the fin, this won't be a problem. I usually build pretty fast so this will be just a bump in the perverbial road.

No plans available for these stabs, yet. I'll get the bug exterminated and see about the rest.

Hey Jack,

I have a Compulsion fuse coming back together after a hard learned lesson. Do you think it would match nicely with a set of Hawk wings?

Dan,

I think you'd be fine with a compulsion fuse. The wing roots probably wouldn't match exactly but that won't make much difference. The moments are 16" tip of nose to center of main joiner; center of Joiner to center of stab axle pin is 32". Decalage is 1 to 1.5 degrees.

Good deal, I'll have a closer look with a ruler. What is the cord at the root?

Dan,

Anywhere close to that and you'll be OK. I wouldn't want to go too much beyond or shorter on the tail moment. The nose moment is important, but not as important as the tail moment. I'll be on Cowtown on the 11th of you want to meet and copy my plans. The short kit's available from LaserArtCo.com if you want a set of wings and so on, that's the way to go.

I am ordering the 1/2 inch rod from Don at hilaunch. The angle is 7 degrees right? And when you say sand relief you mean wrap some sand paper around the rass tubing and sand a rounded channel in the center of the ply spar boxes yes?

Best wishes
Jeff

Yes, that's correct. Be sure to do both webs so the center of the joiner stays in the center of the spar.

Hilaunch is out of the joiners until end of Jan. So... do I wait? Build the midsections and tips while waiting? Build the horizontal stab as shown on the plan and forget the new stab plans? Or to heck with it and use the 7/16th joiner that came with it? Or get started on the Mirage and wait?

Advice?

Jeff:

Use the 7/16 joiner with some 7/16" ID tubing on it until the 1/2" joiner is available. Glue it to the 7/16" rod and use it as if it were the 1/2" rod.

Regarding the stabs, I'll defer to Jack on that one.

Mirage Shmirage! Go ahead and sand the channel out and build the wings. You need only the 17/32 receiver tube to build the wing. The tube is inserted into the wing center sections without being cut, so the jonier isn't needed for alignment. Just be sure the channel is opened enough not to cause any binding. I like about 1/32 out of the middle of each, so the tube fits loosely enough to get epoxy all around it.

Enjoy...
