Thanks guys! With the mods I made, it pretty much "flew off the board". Needed no nose ballast and only a business card shim for a bit more right thrust and a small "aileron'" tab on the port wing (banking a bit too much to the left). The maiden was today - 6 flights starting with 100 turns, the last with 750.

It's been a while since I built a free-flight model, but I got the urge to build something small and simple as relaxation from so many electric RC builds and chose the little Frog Fairy 30 inch glider. It provided a couple of weeks of relaxed building of a style that took me back almost sixty years to those post-homework sessions on my mum's kichen table when I built many similar models. It has now been hand glided and had a couple of flights from a short mini bungee line, flies nicely at 3 ounces AUW. The only modification was to add an auto rudder.

Finish is Esaki Liteflite tissue and dope over 10 micron mylar.

This little model was started in 2010 (Oct.) as an experiment. I had never done a pistachio scale model, so I figured it would give my hands (no feeling) and my nerves a good workout. It did, causing it to be shelved last October after I had gotten the major construction and basic painting finished.

After recently completing a few other models, I dusted off the DH-60, and got down to the final assembly. The top wing dihedral needs a bit of "boosting" and I got the landing gear mounted this evening. The first photo shows the way I left off last Oct. with the parts just pushed together.

Wheels are next...

Hi there,

I just finished my first Free Flight models.

I build them both in parallel: one is a Guillow's Beechcraft Musketeer and the other one is a FF-02 Phantom from easybuiltmodels.com with a 40" wingspan.

Now I need to go in a field to fly them and ruin the nice finish

I forgot how fun it was to build models from a bunch of balsa wood...

Twin Lizzie

The covering on Twin Lizzie is white Litespan with red Litespan trim strips.
Side cabin windows are Doculum laminating film, not as clear as I would
like but first time I have tried it for glazing.
Litespan takes a bit of getting used to but does a nice job.

My DH-60 is ready for flight testing, having "passed" the requisite glides to the bed. the nose block is a bit too loose, so I added a tiny neodym magnet that add no measureable weight, but smoothed the glide a bit more. Some more detailing to the cowl should help compensate the rubber weight behind the CG.

Weight as shown is 3.67 grams (w/o rubber). Not sure what size gummi to use, this being my first pistachio, but I'll probably start with a loop of 1mm.

Very happy browsing here - thank you Bosse. Many familiar models and names - not least my old friends Sven-Olov Linden and Sten Persson... we go back over 40 years now.
