(Almost the) Last of the Many

Don't have many F/F models these days Tony as (a) I have no where to fly them and (b) even if I had with my dicey knees I couldn't chase after them! So it has to be r***o c*****l for me, and even worse, e******c p***r. I have kept one or two of the vintage F/F models built more recently for nostalgia's sake, and as representatives of the around 400 F/F sport and contest models I have had over the last 60 or so years. This one is an ATO 36, a strange but cute little beast marketed as a kit in the forties as one of a short series of gliders by the small and short lived ATO concern from Northern Ireland. When the plan came into my hands it just appealed to me for some reason and I had to build one. It does tow and glide OK.

Very nice George. The cockpit has a kind of early jet look to it Something Percival about it...?

Thanks Tony.

Not so much the flier as the guy who trimmed it.

And the nose resembles the Vampire or Hunter!
How are the wings retained on those toungues?

They are just a tightish push fit. I was going to drill through box and tongue for some cocktail stick shear pins but they are just not needed.

Here are a couple of my old models that I flew today. Superb weather for FF. Light drift and lots of thermals.

First one is my "Copy Cat" open rubber model. Have not flown it in 15 or 20 years, built it possibly 35 years ago. Won the Canadian Nats with it in 1981, and it was not a new model then.
Spent most of Saturday patching up the many holes in it. The tissue is getting very brittle. After a bit of trimming (with some help from Cameron Ackerley) it flew great.
I have a 5 minute flight on video that i will try to post on Youtube later. ~1minute motor run, DT at ~3:30 then 1:30 to come down.
An earlier flight in big lift was probably 10 minutes. Looked for a while like it was going to go OOS in full DT.

Second one is an old 40 gram Wake, "Michelle"
I built a pair of them in the mid 80's. The plans were in a late 60's MAN magazine I picked up somewhere.

At least I think it was MAN, but I don't have the magazine anymore Anyone recognize it and can tell me who the designer was and when it was published? Anyway, looks very nice in the air.
