I'm planning to buy my first Alpha plane - the FW190!!!
Power setup will most probably the axi 2212/20.
I have some questions.

1)The prop, I know many of you have used the aeronaut 8.5*6 prop successfully, but will the APC E 8*6 prop work as well? What are the difference?

2)For both the Aeronaut and APC props, which prop adapters do you get to allow the spinners to go on? (it's my first plane with a spinner, so I don't understand how they go on)

3)I currently have TP 3s 1320 batteries. I know many of you have used 1500 Tanics successfully, but will my TP's hold up to this use? Or should I buy "bigger" batteries. How about the TP 2100's? Are those too heavy?

Hmm...

I don't know what the specs are on the Aeronaut props, but I've tried four props on my Alfa Corsair so far with the MPJet red outrunner.

APC 9x6 slowflyer - Incredible performance, ~16A static, Kokam 1500 3S got quite toasty.

GWS 9x5 HD - Decent current draw, hub cracked and prop disintegrated in flight. Flying prop bits sheared off starboard elevator/h-stab. Luckily, I landed the plane okay and had some foam safe CA handy.

APC 9x6 'E' prop - Not quite as incredible, 13A static, batteries didn't seem to have a problem. I think a lot of the energy from this prop was wasted on the cowl, because most of the blade area is toward the base. (?)

APC 8x6 SF prop - I like this one the best so far; about 13A static, batteries don't get too warm, and the plane hauls ... seriously.

So, I'm not sure how much that will help you, but... I'd try the 8x6.

As for the prop adapter, the 3mm adapter that Hobby Lobby has will be quite sufficient. The spinner has two Pieces, a 'hub' (for lack of a better word) and a snap on nose cone. You just put the adapter on the shaft, put the prop on, put the hub over the prop, add the nut & washer then snap on the nose cone. Piece of cake.

Chris:Thanks for you info. Your description of the spinner really helped, cos I have never used any spinners before.

I've heard great things about the red MPjet outrunner. In fact I'm still contemplating whether to get that or the AXI. Major plus of the MPjet is the price. Those AXI's are quite pricey, but man are they built like tanks!!! (I crashed one before and it came out like new)

Still thinking about the batteries. The mpjet draws 13amps on the 8*6, which sounds ok for my tp 1320's. I'm still hoping someone will know the amp draw for the 8*6 on the axi 2212/20.

Last question, is the 3s tp2100's too heavy for alpha planes? never heard anyone use that before.

FWIW, with the 2212/20, MotoCalc shows the 8 x 6 stalled rather badly at close to WOT pulling 12.2 A. Now MC is not dead on, but it should get you in the ballpark.

The 8.5 x 5 shows 13.8 A w/o stalling, and the 8.5 x 6 also shows being stalled at high AOA (slow speeds) and pulling 14.6 A.

175+ watts @ 16.1A with the aeronaut glass 8.5x6
this is a GREAT prop for the outrunners.

the apc's draw a little more than the aeronauts.

but I'd go ahead and go with 8x6E + 1320s . Or a aeronaut 8x6 if you can wait


guys fly on the tp2100's but lighter may be a bit better to start.

I know you're guy I shd ask about this!!! you are the one who gave me the idea of using the 2212/20. One question...you said 16amps, so won't that be too much for my tp 1320's?

well if they're 1320 gen II 10-12c then they should be good to 15.8 .

the 16.1a will unload in-flight. Remeber that was with an 8.5x6
an 8x6 aeronaut will draw less obviously...they may even have a 7x6 dunno...

what kind of temps you have in Torrance ,CA now ? Altitude ?

I would use the 1320 first .Because a slight mishap with a heavy ALFA can mean a quick trip home..

The lighter plane will be MUCH better off ... for starters

Just check temps after your test flight .

If it makes you feel better, my buddy flies the 1320's HARD ...no worries..

Hmmm...sounds right. Anyway your 16.1amps is WOT right? I don't think I would be doing that all the way

Temp in Torrance is a nice 60 and about sea level. Do these factors make a difference?

FW-190 with MPjet red and APC 8x6E draws about 10A on 3S lipo.
Great performance and long flight's.

For even more speed get the APC 8x8E and it will draw 14A.
With the 8x8 it's a rocket.
