GWS CargoTrans (aka C-130)

Mr. Lin has announced that the GWS CargoTrans will be available in the USA before Christmas this year. Two white pre-production kits have been assembled and painted to look like the Blue Angel Fat Albert C-130 from these preproduction kits. I thought there would be enough interest that I am making this thread a sticky for the month of November. Below are pictures of Wen's construction and paint job on his plane.

Assembled without instructions

Wen's plane above and Jeff hunter's plane below were assembled without instructions and we await pictures of the planes in flight. Jeff Hunter has added a cockpit to his plane and you can see the pilots through the windows. He spackeled the seams on his plane to get a more finished look. He and his friend Jim Noe did the decals and "picture pilots" using themselves as models of course.

Jeff Hunter's plane is ready to fly. The person holding his plane in the first picture is his daughter.

Why did they change the name from the C-130.? I also wish they would have left the nose shape as it was on the prototype.

GWS should start making scale 4 blade prop for the C-130

Hello,

What is the size of the props you are using? GWS 3020?

If GWS can make a 4 blade prop we will have a complete scale looking C-130.

Actually depending on the year and model the props were three blade, four blade and now six blade. It has been flying now for over fifty years so they have had time to try different props on the 130.

GWS tried making a scale type 4 bladed propeller for the P51 Mustang but nobody uses them for flying because the preformance is not as good as a two blader. If you only want a 4 blade prop for static looks it is easy to make one from balsa.

I saw that rocket-assisted takeoff at Redding, CA, where the rockets did start a grass fire at the end of the runway. I was more impressed by that takeoff than with the rest of the show ! Possibly because I didn't expect it - the vroom as they lit, pushing the C130 up at an impressive angle - too much !
