Everything went great until I decided to try the high rates. Evidently, I forgot to program any expo on the high rates, and the first wiggle of the ailerons got me about 540° of instantaneous rotation. Oops. I almost lost it, but managed to recover and get back on the low rates safely. Once the adrenaline rush subsided, the rest of the flight went smoothly as I gradually explored the flight envelope. I kept it all pretty tame due to the wind and quit after one flight. I'm looking forward to getting it out again. It seems like it's going to be a very stable and agile plane.
Nice lookin model
Got a chuckle out of your "oops" ; sounds like my experiences with a new plane. No matter how sure I think I have all the bases covered, there's almost always an "oops" moment with the first couple of flights on a new bird.

fly well,

Maidened my DH.53 Hummingbird last night. No pics as of yet though. What a sweet flyer! I think it flew itself And a very enjoyable build, even for someone that's pretty much a newbie to balsa planes.

Just finished applying the covering to my SA Diddlebug yesterday. There are two pics of the model, I just need my electrics to show up now to finish it off. I'm going with a HK 10gr outrunner, 6a ESC, and 370mah rhino battery, so may be slightly on the heavier side, but so be it.

That's a very sharp looking Diddlebug! If you have any hassles with the brushless and the weight, the recommended LPS sytem works brillinatly well with a little 2S 240, in both the Bug and the Rod.

Despite all the ultra micros coming and going, IMO the Diddlebug and Diddlerod are still up there among the sweetest indoor flyers for just putting a smile on the dial.

Thanks! I'm actually hoping it won't come out too much heavier than the recommnded setup, The motor is supposedly lighter than the LPS setup but I think my ESC and receiver are both a couple grams heavier each than the components listed on the SA page. My other heavy component is the battery, but it was the smallest I could easily find without having to spend more on shipping than on the cost of 3 batteries. The only other issue is keeping the weight of a firewall for the outrunner lite. I'm hoping I can keep my extra weight under 10-15gr.

I expect you won't be lacking for power. With the lighter motor you might need the bigger pack and place it well forward to balance anyway.

BTW, I've occasionally wondered whether it is feasible to use a pair of the single cell UM 160 batteries in series to make a nice light and cheap 2S 160. Might have trouble delivering the current though.

HK 10g motor & Diddlerod

I put one of those motors on my Diddlerod. Smooth power, but watch the wings they will flutter at anything over 1/2 throttle. It used to flutter in a slight dive but with this motor you can do it with full throttle from straight and level. I really like the motor but i'm going back to the brushed motor. Weight is not a problem I have one in a 4oz foamy and it is just fine. I bought 3 of these motors.

I'll probably get in trouble because this model is not R/C, but it is a PARK FLYER!

I bought the reVerb at the AZ Electric Fest two weeks ago. It was so quick and easy to build that I forgot to take construction pictures! Mine was nearly 180 pounds over weight as I CA'd myself to the wing!! I'm so thankful for de-bonder.

This is about the most fun you can have for such a small investment!! And it's great exercise chasing it around the park.

I recommend it.

Have to admit all i've managed to do is install the servo's and fit a firewall for the outrunner. Between work and having tonsillitis again I just wasn't in the mood to work on the model. But hoping to finish it off over the next couple evenings. I'd like to be able to fly it Wednesday as i'm having the day off to watch my son since my mom who normally watches him once or twice a week is away, so that he can enjoy watching it fly. I also picked up a HZ Champ recently to fly around with him and he thinks it's fantastic and runs off to get it everytime I land/crash it, so I reckon the Diddlebug will be a hit.

I finished the Diddlebug Tuesday night and final weight is 3.13 oz so 1/3rd oz heavier than the spec'd weight. Which I don't think is too bad considering i've got a battery that is 2-3x times the capacity and slightly heavier servos. Unfortunately I didn't get to fly it today as it was an absolute stinker (hot) of a day earlier and then in the afternoon it was blowing quite a bit, so the maiden will have to wait till the weekend.

Went to the WRAM Show this weekend and picked-up the Pietenpol Sky Scout (480), Float Kit and ordered a Hacker A20.

Also bought the Pietenpol Air Camper (100) motor/gearbox and Receiver/esc/servo combo.

Man was it packed Saturday..... maybe we'll see some new designs for the next one....

We would all appreciate a few new ones... that way we can start another Appreciation Thread Part 3

Thanks for coming East again!

It was great to see you at the show. Heading home with lots of empty boxes... Ryan has his work cut out for him to restock for Toledo. The new Buzz 100 was a hit and flew superb even within the confines of the rather smallish indoor flying area.... Maybe, just maybe, I got my mind wrapped around a night flier for this years NEAT fair. Will see. Gonna be a busy summer as, with any luck, SA will be relocating (again).
