Luke, I am your father, and this is my ride

Coalescing in the Westport Design Skunk Works.

Posting early to gauge interest in developing this to a kit.

Will be in the 5 oz range with CDR power.

The only thing I noticed is, It would be hard to hand launch (for me anyway lol). Oh yea the controls shouldn't be split by thouse verts? I suck at building and to link the controlls through the verts would be hard.

The center vent/vane is fixed. The outer two are the rudders which ride on the elevons. THe elevon linkage is straight forward, the rudders will use flex cable to a single rudder servo. The motor and prop are inside the sphere/cockpit.
This arrangment should provide vectored thrust.

The center section will be strong enough to grip from underneath to hand launch.

I want one NOW....but what about the cool laser and motor sounds? Guess I'll have to make those myself just like when I fly the rest of my planes. Maybe that's why parents call thier children back so quickly, the funny looking guy in the wierd hat making airplane sounds.

In the realm of "Novelty" models, I think this one would be pretty unique. I would certainly love to see one fly!

The Force is strong in this model I would love one too, I always thought the Tie Fighters were the coolest looking sci-fi ships.

This could get my kids interested in r/c planes, though it doesn't look beginner friendly. It would have to be the carrot after getting some experience in other parkies. Is the x-wing fighter far behind?

I too would like to see one fly

Jskrebs,

From what the picture looks like I see a airflow problem, the control surfaces look to be inside of the wings. If this is the case you might get vortex effect against the wings and may cause a death spiral. I saw a helicopter with the same problem in a hobby store. Getting airflow back off the shelfs caused it to sway back and forth. I maybe wrong, but it looks that way to me.

Suck that would, Yes, Mmmm

I am planning lasercut Balsa and CF construction, but may whip one up from Depron to check airflow and such.
