BEC Controllers - Best for $$ ?

Hi all,

I am in the process of upgrading from a 280 motor to a 370 with better gearbox. In that upgrade, I "almost" forgot to upgrade my speed controller, which would need about a 15A to 20A BEC. (I'm trying to slip this one under the budgetary radar)

Does anyone know of an inexpensive brand that is ok? I have seen the big stores with prices of $30, but wanted to challenge myself to locate the cheapest (but good) 15A-20A.

20A is preferred.

Thanks in Advance

Take a look at the Kontronik SUN 1000, I have one and it has worked flawlessly, AND It is only $24 at Northeast Sailplane Products. It is a 18a esc with a 2 Amp BEC so it can be used with up to 4 servos. Some of the tech data is wrong on his website but it is a good esc and has had no problems for me and I plan on getting another especially for the price.

I second Dauntae's recommendation of the Kontronik SUN 1000. I've got two of them and they're my favorite speed 400 (or light load 480) speed control at any price. And they're about as inexpensive as you can get. I like the fact that they don't have an arming switch. I hate having to cut an extra hole for those things and I don't trust them. I prefer to treat a model with a plugged-in battery pack as a loaded bomb - switch on or not. I've also accidentally switched one off as I handlaunched it. Not fun.

The SUN 1000 is hard to beat.

The Kontronik Sun 1000 is a great ESC. The Dymond ESC's are also good and very reasonable.

The FMA Mini20 is a good one. Its a little more than 30 dollars though, more like 40. But they are really tiny and light!!! Thanks Ray

Futaba?

I checked out the Kontronik link....sounds like it would do the job well, however, when I drilled down on the price link, it only displayed (JR) connector. Does anyone know if there is a Futaba connector available?

The Sun 1000 would be my first recommendation as well.

The JR connector will plug into your Futaba equipment just fine and the wires are all in the proper order. The main difference between the connectors is that the JR/Hitec connector doesn't have that little tab sticking out of one edge.

Just pay attention to which way you plug it in and it will be fine.

Others to consider: WattAge IC-30A and Great Planes C20, but if Sal's selling the Sun 1000 for $24 you just can't beat it.
