Depron X-wing

Hello.

Built this in a couple of hours.

Wingspan is 70cm, and length 55cm.
Uses a DX-A with 10x4.7 prop, 2 pico servos, pico receiver, 6-7 cell 120 mah, or 7cell 700mah nimh.

I haven't flown it yet, so maybe it won't fly at all. but it glides real nice and slow in my living room.

I'll tell you if it works, hopefully i can try it today, but my girlfriend just told me we need to clean up the apartment...

Looks pretty cool. Looks like you are using elevon mixing on the bottom wing only.... I would be interested in seeing how this performs. I would like to build something with the GWS pico flight pack

flight report

ok, tried flying.
Wind was calm, but when i threw it, a gust slammed it to the ground. sigh... No damage.
Some more tries...

At last, after getting the CG right it actually flew. But it was a bit too windy, and the upper wings flexed a lot. As you can see i taped the lower wing, and that was enough to keep it stiff, so i've done that to the upper wing too.

I guess the sticky thing on the tape hadn't 'set' yet, so it came off because it was cold. First receiver came off, then velcro holding the battery. So all i could do was walk home again.

I added 1mm carbon rod piece in the nose as 'front gear', to protect the foam when landing.

cactus:
Yes, it's elevon mixing on lower wing. First i was going to put it on upper wing, but because it's a kind of V-tail, it would give a rudder effect in the opposite direction as aileron. So i put them on lower wing, so rudder and aileron cooperates.. Guess it kind of makes an elevon v-tail or something... It was controllable anyway.

That's cool.

Now, how about a TIE fighter? Any takers?

I think to make a tie fighter fly you would have to fly on your side. Which would be interesting.

Don't forget to add R2D2 to the model when is up and running.

VERY COOL

Perhaps a rib at the tip will help keep the airfoil, maintaining the wing stiffness.

RCMicroflight is having a design contest that you should consider.

Well, since I have 2 EDF50s and one KP44, I am also thinking along the lines of an EDF TIE Fighter. I am also thinking that since the "Flying Cube" seems to fly just fine in "diamond" attitude, a TIE Advanced or TIE Interceptor might just do the trick. That central sphere also seems to be the best place to place an EDF unit on.

Ah! Too many things to do and not enough time, not to mention that thing called "work".
