Anyone recognize this Russian aircraft ?

My buddy Leo shot this on May 25th when we were outside at the Russian Air Force museum at Monino near Moscow. We heard engines and saw a strange sillhouette in the sky. Leo had no time to change to a zoom lens and he shot the best he could.

I blew up the image as much as possible before it got too pixelly. After some research we think it could possibly be a Tupolev Tu 134UBL. They were converted from the regular Tu 134 airliner in the late 80's to train Tupolev Tu 160 pilots. The Tu 160 was the Russian equivalent to the B1 bomber.

Did we really capture such an exotic beast on film, or does anyone have a different idea ?

I think you are on the right track. I recall that the Russians also did the same thing to train the TU-144 pilots.

One of my colleagues did some creative internet surfing, confirmed that there are Tu 134UBL's still flying and found some great photos.

We're now as sure as can be that what we saw was a Tu 134UBL :

PS - The typical Tupolev undercarriage pod on the RH wing is clearly visible on the small photo.
