Louied, not sure where those instructions will take you, but it doesn't sound like Point Fermin to me.

Here are directions to WhitePoint, which is a little farther north. But follow these until you get to Pt. Fermin park at the End of Gaffey Street, then park along the grass strip and you are done.

ok gentleman, heres the final post from Concreteman. Tomorrow Fermin F3F fest will commence at high noon. We will fly until 2:30 sharp. We will then give up the hill to those in attendance wishing to fly. We will resume the competition at 3:30 and hopefully wrap up at 5:00 - 5:30. We offer a big thanks to those who frequent the hill for sharing and the So Cal Slope Racing group looks forward to our next return in January( I believe). Hopefully some of the first timers will get the racebug and attend the events. There are 2 per month, 1 F3F, and 1 Man On Man competition. They are very similar in intensity, but strategically different. Once tried, most guys get hooked.

Basically, 2, 3, or 4 planes on the course at one time. Not flown for time, but for finishing position. It is the most fun type of racing, because it's heart in your throat adrenelin pumping thumb shaking action, right in your face. Lots of fun.

MoM is about cajones. F3F is about technical precision.

Got off the phone with Woody from Pt. Fermin. Sounds like a great day. Times are in the low 40's. Bob Bingham in the lead, with Kyle Paulson and Mike Sheridan riding hard on his heels.

My whole family is home sick with the flu, including me. Bah!

there were (2) 38second runs i believe.. one was bob bingham (sp) and Mike (slopejocky) i believe they were both 38's... Ben a firstimer pulled a 46.xx with his wizard BPV and i pulled a 48.86 with my SUPER light unbalasted glass MB... GOD! i love this plane... just keeps surprising...

racing is TRULY amazing... the level of competition was HUGE! (i was the worst) lol... but that was expected... just amazing the size of these ships, the relaxed attitudes, and how quick they could FLICK a turn... just amazing... very well setup "concreteman" (warren) setup an AMAZING day with everything perfectly ontime... i mean EXACTLY on time... he said "concrete doesnt wait, neither do i" LOL! and it was amazing... winds were strong in the high teens to low 20's as early as 11AM!... just great.... you'll see me A LOT at these races... already looking into my savings for a new 2m+ plane to compete.

LOTS of landings today (really weighed on my mind that i knew i was gonna have to land around 8-10 times in 1 afternoon at fermin... thats scary)... and unfortunatley there was some carnage... a NYX snapped on a accidental landing. an acacia 2 threw out with a loose balast tube and the CG was WAY back and landed a little hard.... and another plane lawn darted into the field (dont know the plane). i messed up one landing on my MB and put a ding in the leading edge (CA and tape baby!)...

it was an amazing day. BIG thanks to everyone who put it together.. i had an absolute BLAST!.... also picked up a new toy... (will post pics later )

Just for clarification, "Flicking" around a turn is a bad thing, and is recognized when you plane goes into an uncontrollable spin as a result of too much elevator, too much speed, and too rearward a CG.

Now, cranking a turn is probably what you were describing, and that's the perfect combination of speed, elevator, timing, and energy management.

Glad you had fun, and super glad that you entered.
