Series of Earthquakes in Bodie, CA! Still going on! What's going on?!

You've got to check this out! Ever since I left CA, my family has continued to check out the USGS website, and oh boy! After scanning the entire state, Bodie is getting a swarm of quakes, and Qualeys Camp, NV, just a few clicks east! Anybody out there know what's going on? It's really weird!

7 quakes in 17 minutes? That's got to be something odd...

There have been about 15 more since I last checked. Most might not be able to feel them, but what's up with this?

Looks pretty normal to me...
Relax. There nothing you can do about it anyways but move.
Just don't mount anything over your bed lest you get conked in the middle of the night.

if it keeps going for days it might be something normal. However, it's weird that I've never come across this hotspot.

I still remember when Ridgecrest, Ca (My home) was the EarthQuake Capital of the world. There was even a CD player commerical using it. LOL.

That was all back around the time of the Landers, Big Bear stuff.

Now I'd take a 4.5 anyday over a Hurricane or Tornado. But then I remember living back East and saying that after a sting of Tornados.. and locals looking at me funny. They would rather the tornado over the Earthquake. I guess it's all about where you grew up.

Thereís lotís of geothermal, volcanic and seismic activity at the northern end of the Owens Valley. Nothing to worry aboutÖuntil Mammoth blows its stack. Which will probably happen in the very distant, distant, distant future.

I agree, Kimmer, When an earthquake hits, it is usually over in seconds, and your stuff is in the same place. In a hurricane or tornado, your stuff is in the next county!

When the New Madrid pops again it's likely to make them Cali earthquakes pale in comparison. Last time it went, I believe, it was the biggest quake recorded in US (1812?) Due to population centers and type of construction the damage will probably exceed western earthquakes.

Hey! I found a news report from KOMO 4 news(.com), it's the Bay Areas leading news station (at least when I lived there, it most likely it still is). They say it isn't unusual to see a large series of earthquakes, it happens every couple of years. It'll go active, then quiet, then active, then quiet.... Some periods lasting longer than others. BTW, it's now up to over 600 quakes! Yikes! Still pretty cool, I'm sure the geologists and... earthquakeologists? are having a field day!

Here ya go!
