SP400 Rocket 4:1 what prop?
I have dreams of seeing my DMA Butterfly go vertical. and I was thinking that maybe I could use the Rocket 400 and my 4:1 gear box that it may work. The gearbox will add about 1oz so all up weight will be around 15 oz. I was wondering if anyone has experience with the SP400 Rocket @ 4:1 could give me an idea of where to start with the prop, or even better if someone could run it through Motocalc to see what kind of thrust they predict.

I used the rocket geared 4.09:1 with a gws 10x8 on 8 600ae's on my 17-7/8ths oz Frenzy and found it would hover and torque roll for the first 2 minutes.
Top speed was only around 40 or so, but that is prob just about right for the Butterfly. Amps by the way are quite reasonable, and neither motor or batts get overly warm. Please give us a flight report when you test it out. DeaninMilwaukee |

Don't know what a Rocket 400 is, but on stock 6V S400 with 4:1 gearing and 8 cells I use APC-E 11x8.5.

Thanks guys,
Wow, it actually looks like this will work . Poobs, Thanks for the link, I have never played with P-calc or Motocalc before. That is pretty easy . One of these days we have to get together and do a little flying.Cheers, Jim |

Just finished up the the re-build of my Butterfly and this looks like it is going to work. The static thrust test shows that is will go vertical
Useing a 8X600AE and a APC 10X7 Slow Fly prop. I ran it on my Wattmeter an it shows 10.8 amps and around 90 watts. If the weather is ok out tomorrow morning I will give it a test flight and let you guys know how it went. Cheers, Jim |
