slow stick underpowered or something else?
Well I recently took the plunge and got a SS. I got the 400 speed model and a 6-cell 600mah pack. My problem is my SS doesn't climb well. No matter how hard I try I can't seem to get it above about 40 feet before it stalls out and I have to quickly turn it around and land it (or sometimes it turns itself). This happens even in very gentle breezes (not more than 5 MPH).
So my question is- could the problem be that the 400 speed just doesn't get enough juice on a 6-cell? I ordered the 6-cell before I realized most people run it with an 8-cell. I find it strange because I have to put my throttle level a little past 50% before the motor will even turn on. Is this normal? |

You DEFINITELY want a better battery. For a 400 motor, an 8cell 1050mah 2/3A pack is the way to go. Cheapbatterypacks.com
Im not sure about the %50 throttle part. Do you hear any humm or squeal when you apply just a tiny bit of throttle? Can you manually start the motor at say, 10% throttle by bumping the prop a little? At 50% throttle when it just starts to turn, does it turn slowly, or does it just suddenly kick up to half throttle? I cant promise the better pack will fix your stalled motor problem, but id guess it would personally. You the better pack anyway regardless. Its always annoyed me that gws designs such (generally) nice planes then recommends batteries that wont fly them...
