Question
Mig 15 home build

Hi everybody!

I've read a lot of post here and now I'm building a Mig 15 with wemotech minifan 480 and HP 200/20/6 motor.

I'm planning to fly with 3s2p lipos.

But I still have a question: What sould be the best airfoil for my mig???

I looked up for an Eppler 193 or an SD6060 but I realy don't know witch one to choose and if I'm right with those.

If anybody can help! TNX

Sorry but my English is not perfect.

Thanks for answer! I think it's a good option but on K&A mig, they say that it's a SD6060 MODIFIED so what will be the difference between the standard and the modified one?

What is modified on this K&A's SD6060???

Not simple at all for me...

I also want to hand launch it and have a smooth flight like the Alfa's mig.

I hope it will be around 650 g-700 g / 22 oz - 25 oz

For models that size when you want good hand launchability you really can't beat the S3021. My Panther uses it (it has been nahd launched, but I don't because it's too hard to hold on to), and Graham's Aviojet uses it (it handlaunches perfectly). You can't design a small jet aimed purely at flat out performance as the airfoils that will give that will really suffer at low speeds. BTW, put 1.5-2 deg washout in the tips, essential with a swept wing! Good luck!

Stu.

ps. a modified SD6060 is no longer an SD6060, and you can't pay any attention to the SD6060's polars. There are so many good airfoils to choose from, I can't understand why anyone with less knowledge than Dr's Selig or Donovan (or Dr Drela) would attempt to "modify" and already good airfoil......

Ok then I will use S3021, I hope it works cause the mig has a biger V in the wing so it's quite different than the panther.

If anyone have more info about airfoil, I'll be happy to get it.

TNX all your very helpfull!

I have built and flown a fully scale mig 15 with 25 inch wingspan for microfan using an rg14 section with 1 degree of incidence and 2 degrees of anhedral. we have never tried a hand launch but im sure it could be done. it had amazing slow speed handling and would come in at a slow walking pace once you had scrubbed off speed. which takes a while with rg 14. it was designed for pylon racing so cornering without scrubbing speed is what the section was designed for

Most airfoils identified as modified have the trailing edges made a finite thickness (as opposed to a razor sharp edge) and the last 10-15% made a straight line to the trailing edge (no convex control surfaces as a flutter preventive measure). At Beech that is why the Bonanza airfoil is identified as an NACA 23012 modified.
