aveox 1406/2y + L160 ESC+ ecofan pro ?
One of our club members bought 2 of the following combos a few years back, but never ran them. He is now thinking about putting them in a foam Concorde he has been building. The questions are:
- how many cells and watts can this take? - are these a good combo? I seem to find mostly references to the HW609 fan with this motor, rather than 90mm fans. - Should he upgrade to a midi fan rotor? - If not, what to change to get something nice for minimal extra investment (plenty of money in there already!) ? One more thing about the motor: we think it is a 1406/2y, but there are no markings on it. He had to turn out the fan to accept it, as it is about 1-2 mm too large in diameter. Am I right in thinking that therefore the motors are from a particular batch of aveox's made for some other application? ("cusinart" seems to come to mind) . If so, do they differ in any way from standard 1406/2y? TIA, Stephane |

The 1406/2Y and the Midi-Pro are mismatched in my view. I ran a 1409/2Y on 10 and 14 cells with that fan - 40 amps or so on 10 cells. I don't think you'll be able to use any more than 7 or 8 cells on the 1406's. You would be better off with Midi rotors although those are still hot motors for a 90mm fan. For a twin maybe it'll work OK. The Midi rotors will fit those shrouds fine so it isn't an expensive change. Try 7 and 8 cells and see what the current draw is. I would not run those motors over 40 amps. Various vintages of those motors had magnet issues, they sling magnets when they get too hot or demagnetize. |

Chris, thanks for the feedback.
As I can see, running 7-8 cells at no more than 40 amps results in a rather dismal 320 watts per fan max. A Minifan would do better at lower weight I think... How many watts can you pull out of a 1406/2Y? Would using another fan be a better option to use the motors/ESC to their fullest? The other option is to change the motors themselves, but the ESC are sensored, that limits the options a lot! |
