Anyone know any tricks to keep the collet from getting loose during flight and flying off? I've tightened it to the point I was afraid of stripping the aluminum threads but it still flys off after a while. Thanks

a piece of 320 grade wet and dry sanding paper wrapped around the shaft and score it along the shaft not around, till you see that the high polish is well marked up, spray with some contact cleaner or similar to get rid of any sillicone from the paper and any oils, check inside the alloy bore on the prop adaptor and clean with a pipe cleaner ,when fitting the adaptor the taper should have just a oil smear and also the thread,you should find that your problem is solved , check your speed control that its set on soft or no brake, as sudden braking can make the problem worse.

I had a problem with mine also...I believe it is a 2mm shaft on the gear. I finally fixed it by buying a 2mm collet from Hobby Lobby that has a nut.....never had a problem since.

They also have a neat kit that slips over the collet nut, then you attache a realistic looking prop Hub that looks like a Hamilton standard prop dome. real neat for war birds....or to just hide the nut.... The new collet is even tight going on...but the hub on my Himax is 2mm. I had it at the hoppy shop to make sure.

Hi olmod and mjdee14. Thanks for your replies. The sanding paper idea is good. My Himax gearmotor is the HG2025-4266. I measured the gear shaft diameter and it is 3.048mm (.120"). Very odd-ball. Even more odd-ball is the prop shaft diameter of 4.674mm (.184"). The length of the prop shaft is such that a props hub thickness can't be much over 1/4 inch. Most GWS props have a hub thickness of 9/16". Oh well. I checked the Hobby-Lobby website and they don't have any prop shaft adapters for 3mm shafts. 3.2mm was the closest.

Try www.ecubedrc.com they have them for most i had to buy some recently myself.

On another post someone had the same problem...and they called Max products...they sent out another collet. I just called and they are sending me another one also...

I haven't measured the shaft...and you may be right its probably 3mm not 2 like I thought...but Hobby Lobby had one in stock that fit perfectly and tightens down great. It may not be in the catalog...as the guy at the counter (I live right by them) gave me. it must have been the 3.3...it was too loose..he came up with 3mm (I guess) and it fit great...

I need to see if I kept the package.....and I might be able to give you a part number...

Just measured the shaft and it is 3MM...I got new 3MM from Hobby Lobby and it works great , has a nut instead of the dome screw. i also called Maz producxts and they are sending me another collet..

Thanks olmod! I got my first Himax motor and APC props last week and I've been trying like nuts to get the adapter that comes with the Himax to get tight on there. The sandpaper trick worked like a charm.
