I am purchasing an AVA-E and am looking for suggestions
for a 7 cell set up. (Motor, Prop and cell type).

Thanks for taking the time to respond!

I personally think the money no object best 7 cell set up out there is the Plettenberg 7 cell F5B motor + 7:1 gearbox (HP 220/15/A1 P6 7:1), 16x13 prop and 7xgp2200 SCHR.

Second best choice hacker b50 6S + 5.2 with either the gp2200 or 3300 and up to an 18 inch prop. This combo can potentially be more efficient at over 100 amps than the Petti but will be heavier, which might not matter much on a 3 meter glider.

Equal 2nd best choice, Electronic motors Elios 56 + reisenauer 5:1 micro light + 17x13 prop.

There's probably a Kontronic motor that would do the same job and for all I know an Aveox as well.

In 7 cell setups the weight counts more, which is why the GP2200 batteries will be such a big help, letting you get over 100 amps without adding much weight over cp1700 or faup 1960.

best

David, I'm also considering motor selection for an electric AVA on order. I've got a Hacker B40-8L+4.4:1 sitting on the shelf, used to power a 2.5 meter Silent Dream on 7 cells with a CAM 14x9.5 prop. Was hoping to use this motor perhaps on 8 cells (new 2,200 GP NiMH cells--same size as CP1,700s) and a different prop. Don't need rocket ship performance, just a good strong launch to altitude.

Your thoughts?

TIA,

Steve

I am no expert on power systems. The 8L will likely get the plane up there pretty well on 8 cells if you it at around 60-70 amps.It really all depends on how fast you want to climb.

The 2200 cells are great. Where are you getting yours from?

As Dave said, it all depends on how you want to fly, and how quickly you want to climb.

Choose a power system that gets you at least 50W/lb for slow, easy, sport-like climbs. 100W/lb for good performance, 1000' or so - the limits most non competitive pilots usually fly at - in 30-45 seconds. 200W/lb for hotliner/insane speeds, and more for F5B stuff.

Thanks guys, at least I can start with this Hacker knowing it's in the ballpark, hate to keep buying a different motor for every plane. I'll be ordering an 8-cell pack of GP-2200 NiMH cells from Diversity (Steve Belknap). His quality and service are outstanding.

the B40 will be very good, this is from my experience with similar motor in a Art Hobby High Aspect, which is similar size to Ava.

use a large diameter prop to get good thrust.

I have an AVA-E fuse and Aquilla wing hanging around and maybe I'll just have to get the tail feathers done this winter and give it a go.

Hi ,
In Ukraine we fly with Kontronik Fun 480-55 / 5,2:1 , with propeller aero-naut cam carbon 15x10 , 7 x Sanyo 2400 or Sanyo 4/5.
And at all model is cool.
