Do you have a diagram for Sermos parallel connection? The series connection has been working perfect for me. I connect two 6-packs together (my charger won't charge anything above 10 cells) and haven't had any problems. Thank you.

Don’t have a photo; you need a “Y” on each side.

Two tails out of one connector, one for red side and one for black; the vertical leg goes to the charger.

Not sure how well it works to charge two packs NiXx in parallel?

Hi JRB,
Just wanted to say thanks for this post as it was the one that I stumbled across about the same time pulled down the Dynaflite 40 trainer that had been sitting in the garage rafters for about ten years. Being new to RC and (RCGroups) I read through this and thought "hey I can do this to my old trainer" as I was not real excited about gas and all that went with it. Long story short the trainer worked out very well and survived my self teaching process I have since moved on to foamies but have plans in the future for some A123's that should serve the trainer well!!

Glad it helped capt!

Foamies are fun; but I really enjoy conversions.

These all use A123: 1/4 Cub, 1/5 Cub, FreeStyle 55" ws.

And... with the power system chosen, if/when he decides to go LiPo... its just a matter of getting a pair of appropriate battery packs. 4S 5000 mah would work very well giving longer durration and lighter weight. 0.2 v nominal voltage change is negligible.

The reduced weight will be a huge bonus.

I just swapped out the original 7 cell 2000 mah from a Hobbico Superstar EP for a 3S 3700 LiPo. (and got a Castle 35 amp ESC... The Hobbico original won't take the higher voltage) Reduced prop so I get about the same watts as the original and the performance improvement is still amazing.
Not even brushless... yet.

Actually, performance isn’t bad with good set of 3S LiPos – prop up to 13x10.

But, best is A123-4S!

Even the LVC work very well with the A123s; not good for LiPos though. The A123s are seen as 11 NiXx which set the LVC or 8.8 volts (11*.8) – 2.2 volts for the A123s very safe.

And the A123s can be recharge quite quickly; in less than 7 minutes at 20amps!

I chose to suggest 4S LiPo because nominal voltage is almost the same as the 12S NiXX

Same prop... almost the same amp draw.

I'm just starting to deal with A123 and LiFePO4... Stuck 5S2P Ryobe pack into a 1/6 Sopwith planning to turn a 14 X 4 or 14X5 prop appx 9000 rpm. (KV of the motor chosen says 10,800 at 18 v)

Most of my fleet is on A123s: Cubs (1/5 -- 5S2P & 1/4 -- 10S2P -- nearly 20minutes), other 40s on 6S (exactly same as 16NiXx or 5S LiPo), T-33 and American Flyer on 4S. and Mustang and Velox in 8S.

Bit of an update:

A motor with a Kv in the mid 600s is a good way to go -- i.e. a E-flight Power 46 BL.

Closer to 700 would help you use a 3S pack.

The Jeti 45/3 and its speed control flew my Good Ole America Flyer great on a pack of A123-4S.

A bit more of an update:

Used the following motor and speed control in my SNJ flying on A123-6S w/13x10 – 33amp; also used the ESC in my Sundowner 50 w/E-Flite 46 BL – both fly using the ESC’s BEC:

TR 42-60C 500Kv Brushless Outrunner

TURNIGY Plush 60amp Speed Controller

Here’s the link for their 40 ESC -- TURNIGY Plush 40amp Speed Controller:

And a couple higher Kv motors that would work in a 40 trainer:

TR 42-50A 700kv Brushless Outrunner / 720W

Hi all just wondering

I have a pt-40 with a 40 I never finished , if I got a TR4250A-700 what engine mount do I need to get it in the front of that plane if the metal one from the manufacturer is still in there ?

Would a 3600mAh 4S 30C Lipo Pack be a good one to power this plane for about 10-12 minute flights ?

and which prop ?

Thanks
