Well, it looks like it will be a while before we can fly in most parts of the state. We have two tropical systems headed our way...one's a hurricane <Charlie> and the other is an intensifying tropical storm.<Bonnie> "Charlie" is forecast to head up the west coast of Fl, then turn inland just about at Basket Case's house. From there it should come on across central FL and hammer me! Winds in excess of 90mph, I don't need! Bonnie may be a hurricane by the time it makes landfall on the northern west coast. Oh well, part of the price of living in paradise!

Yeah I live in the Clearwater area - guess it will a good weekend to build airplanes assuming my garage doesn't get blown away.

Of course, if you ever wondered just how much wind you really could fly in.......

Hey Buzz, we're almost ready for Charlie. Hopefully it'll be slowed down some by the time it gets to your side of the state.

Funny, the past two days have been the best flying days in a long time. Maybe the proverbial calm before the storm?

My best windy day plane is a Zagi, I wonder how it would work with floats.


Phil, at least you don't have to worry about hurricanes in Missouri. I don't mean to disagree but just in the interest of accuracy the highest point in Florida is Mt. Britton at 345 feet in the panhandle, it's actually 1/2 mile from the Alabama state line. The highest point in the rest of the state is Iron Mountain at 298 feet, where the Bok Tower is located near Lake Wales. It's hard to believe that both places are called mountains, some mapmakers had a good sense of humor.

Down here in south FL we have some dumps called land fills that are high enough to slope off of.One is at the Fl Turnpike and Sample rd and the other is in Davie Fl on Orange drive almost to I-75. Come on down. Jerry

I went to Publix today in Seminole and was told all they were selling today was beer and water to get ready for Charlie. I just hope he doesn't knock our power out so I can start building my Hell Raiser.

You are pretty close to me then. I just heard there is flyng field off of Bryan Dairy rd, but could not find it - do you know that one? BTW did you know there is new all electric airplane shop in Tarpon Springs?

Yes I do know where that field is, I fly there on Saturdays. It is between Belcher and 66th Street on the North side.

Did not know their is a shop in Tarpon Springs do you know the name of it?

We left coast flyers will take up the torch for you. We will go out of our way to put extra planes in the air this weekend to make up for the imbalance. No need to thank us, we are more than happy to help out.

The shop in Tarpon Springs, is JGRC, his website is JGRB.biz, (727) 942-0002 his hours are from 12-5 Tues/Fri and 11-4 Sat. (better than banker's hours) The store is on the west side of US 19 just past the park, but south of Martin Luther King Blvd. Personally.. If the winds are still up Friday morning, I have a Radical R/C Micro Stik that the covering went to hell after I left it in my car for a few days. I could reshink it, but what fun would that be? Maybe I will try some "Floridian" dynamic soaring, at least until the magnet gives out. Batten down the hatches, and stock up on batteries, just like the news report tell you to
