Carbon Fiber on Alfa Model HL Ta-183 Huckebein

I am building one Ta-183 Huckebein from Alfa Model.
I intend to put a brushless motor and 3s 2100 TP on it.
I saw on e-flightline video a Very Fast brushless setup on a Mig-15 from Alfa Model.
.....right up to the point that it ripped the wings off. They will building another one with more reinforcement in the wing.....
Does anyone put a carbon tube to reinforce the wing of Ta-183 Huckebein?

I have the TA-183 Huckebein, but powered by a edf55 and himax 2015/4100. doesnt have the speed that my mig had. partly because i believe it is heavier and i'm using a smaller motor in a different fan. the mig was powered by a 2025/5300. too much. yes, i folded the wing.

i think for all these foam based jet, you just need to be careful and dont overstress the frame/wing with hard manuvers or unchecked massive speed.

Synwpn your absolutely right the structure was not designed for the power you are trying to put to it. When you beef the structure up the plane then loses its friendly flying abilities because the higher airspeeds take different foils etc. Doing the modification thing is fine just remember if it does not fly as good as you expected you then know why it doesnt.

As I said in the "other" tread (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134830), I experimented with the Vasa 55 / Hacker B20-12-L combo in my first Huck.

It was not a joy to fly, on the first couple of flights it wouldn't slow down enough for a nice landing, it ripped a wing off just after launch, went vertical when thrown with WOT, etc., etc...

Now I got myself a new TA183 and built it standard, as it comes out of the box - except that the fan is a Mk2 one from Alfa's MiG (I guess they'll sale the Huck with that one too) and the motor is a Permax 280BB...

On 3 LiPoly (TP 1350's) cells it flies absolutely great! Of course it doesn't have enough thrust to go vertical, but the "real one" wouldn't do such things either. I guess that the factory version doesn't throw it's wings from the fuse on a low pass!

It still is faster than my mate's FW190 (an Alfa model too) and it really is a pleasure to land!

It's just a theory that bigger/faster/heavier is not always better...

heh, yeah, i realized that Eric. for me, the mig was more of a 'exploratory' thing to see how a high thrust/weight ratio affects performance. all i can say is, I LIKE!

Hi Synwpn,

When you find a plane that is golden in its flying qualities, the memories stick with you forever. From what I can see from reading about the Mig it was a great little flyer. If CZ had engineerd for the stresses associated with that typw of power it would have been a perfect model, and actually it wont need serious changes just attenteion paid to the weak areas like wing/fuselage interface. The shape of the little TA really grabs me and I might do one in wood in the future of course I want to ROG with my models and so it will have gear...

Yes Eric, she definitely flew stellar! i may get another one in the future. lots of things to build right now. i do have plans for a freeflight version of the mig that i'm considering reworking. like you, i want ROGs! and retracts! i'm a greedy guy eh?

I Know what you mean, I am a proponent of the smaller stuff and love to fly at the local school yard but sometime there is nothing like the feeling of advancing the throttle and holding a little up elevator and watching the plane lift off from the tarmac make a circuit and call touch and go's till the fuel is gone or the battery is gone. Love it..

i wouldnt say better. it is different. i think the mig flies better.

the TA-183 has a VERY curious stall characteristic. happened to me 3 times so far. when it stalls in a 60-70deg climb, when she stalls out, she flips up on her back and then falls over. kind of odd. i'm wondering if it might be that because of the the odd vtail at the end of a large plane vertical stab.

That stall kinda scares me...I want a plane I can fly...not the plane fly me.....is the Alfa mig and wattage f86 (http://www.globalhobby.com/public/wa...ery/128380.asp) the same plane???
