It would seem the finger you normally use to operate your delete key is broken,
so use the other one...

I’ll offer this equipment here first, as I know some of you dabble more than
others on the electronic/RF side of things;

OptoElectronics 3000A over-the-air (or direct – by 1M probe) frequency
counters. Essentially it’s less than half the size of a TX, employs various
measurement means to ascertain the precise carrier frequency of any RF
emanating device between 10Hz and 3GHz. It detects and measures to 7 digits,
using either 50 or 1Mohm BNC inputs. It also has a signal strength bar graph.
They also have internal NiCD to allow in-the-field operations. You can see one
at: http://www.optoelectronics.com/counter_comparison.htm

The two I have are used, and do not include wall wart for batter charge and/or
extended operation. It would be prudent to have a local test/measurement firm
calibrate the units as well…unless you have an SA to compare. Oh ya, if you
wish to utilize the device for high security counter surveillance, it is right
up that alley as well. If you are interested, contact me offline…

Hi James,

My Tiger Moth time totals just two in the front, but I doubt my passion is significantly less than your own. I have a couple of plans for Tiger Moths designed by Gordon Whitehead that might interest you, and recommendation to look at a third.

First some photos of one I built a little over 10 years ago. It spans 47.5 inches, and is the most obvious candidate of my suggestions.
http://www.gryffinaero.com/models/ff...oth/tmoth.html

This was built almost without modification directly from the plans for the glow original, designed by Whitehead. There are significant opportunities to lighten the structure when building, though of course I have lost that chance. As soon as I complete some needed repairs, I will replace the 10-cell 1700mAh NiCd pack with a 3S Li-Poly. A 2100mAh pack will save about a pound. Fortunately my existing battery is right on the CG.

Gordon has a new Moth, designed from the start as an electric model. It is a bit larger than you are looking for, but worth consideration; if for no other reason than the plans are much more detailed and accurate. A trip to a local copy shop can have a reduced set in your hand in a few minutes. At 1/5 scale and spanning 70.5 inches, this one has wings that are removed in left and right pairs, and might actually be easier to carry around than the smaller one I built. Because of the rigging, I treat mine as a one-piece model, leaving the wings on all the time. I have these new plans, and they really are spectacular. I have a power system set aside from a review project that will go in one of these someday. Gordon’s prototype weighs 9.5 lbs on 1377 square inches and is powered with 20 2400mAh NiCds. Going to a 6S 4300mAh pack of Li-Polys would save over a pound, bringing his weight to 8 pounds plus a little and should easily give 20-25 minute flight times. That’s a couple of nice 10-minute flights without recharging. Yeah, I am trying to talk myself into this one sooner rather than later! Here is a link to a photo. Unfortunately the video link seems to be dead.
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=229345

I expect both of these plans are available in the UK, perhaps from Traplet, but if not, you can still get them and copies of the construction articles from RCM (www.rcmmagazine.com) here in the US. The smaller one is #pl-793, the big one is #pl-1329.

Lastly is a much lighter park flyer type model that is a little smaller at 44 inches. Designed by Pat Trittle, this is a floater, weighing just 18.3 ounces. Obviously it will have a few scale compromises and be delicate to handle to make that weight, but when the air is calm I bet it is a lot of fun to fly. First flight report is post #112 in this thread. Plans and kits are expected.
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=493306
Videos are available at http://www.manzanolaser.com/id5.html

I hope all this helps.

Sincerely,

Thayer

Thayer,
I don't think this E-mail was for me.
BTW, I met Mr. Whitehead at a MARCEE meet many(?) years back.
He has (had) family living in the Twin Cities.

Best Wishes
