Velcro question for battery tie down…

Do I need to remove some of my wing covering in order to put Velcro directly on the wood, or can I attach it directly to the covering?

Attaching Velcro directly to your covering will quickly loosen it from the underlying wood when you pull apart the Velcro. You should attach it directly to the wood, or if your covering is covering a flat wooden surface, you can probably attach the velcro with CA after polking holes through the covering so that the CA can seep through to the underlying wood. This will provide a strong attachment for the Velcro.
