I have no idea what you're talking about but it sound interesting. I love anything that flies, so could you elaborate for people like me who'd like to know more?

Flatplate plane? Differential thrust?

I designed a wing that would fold in flight (from ~semetrical to nearly Clark Y) but, something tells me this isn't what you're talking about.

Flat plate being no airfoil, differential thrust meaning you steer by adding more power to one motor and less to the other - poor man's rudder essentially!

Saves on the cost of servos but you pay for it with lack of manoeuverability.

no quite flateplate is pretty much a plane that is completely flat.
differential thrust is where u use 2 motors to steer and go up/down.
one slows down and the other speeds up to turn and they both spped up to go up and both slow down to go down.

damn too slow
and for the record u don't lose manuverability that much its very manuverable.

ehhh u don't need those to have funkeeping these low power things going is fun enough.
plus these things bring a whole new kind of events to the table, so unpredictable

Yes, I can see that there would be a whole different set of challenges. I didn't mean to be.... snide, but when I think of maneuverability I think all out crazyness. A differential thrust ship would be a ton of fun for cruising around the park, chasing geese and small children around...........

Good luck on your venture. Why not try one out of blue FFF, might be worth a shot. getting your thrust angles would take some time I imagine, but lots of fun trying new settings!

Perhaps this is another stupid question, but what about mounting the motors on 2 axis pods so they could be tilted up/down/left/right in addition to the changes in speed for control of the aircraft (I'm thinking two pusher motors).

Or would that be outside the scope/parameters of the project?

nice idea but yes out of scope and cody i know wat ur talking about u weren't being snide.
i got it cut out and am going to sand it out to make it symmetrical first. even out the bumps from cutting. then im going to sand the top of leading edge and bottom of trailing edge.
I got one question. on the picture (the blue one) i posted can someone make some marks where i should put some music wire to re-enforce the nose and body(mainly the nose). should i just put one straight back?

The only thing I would use the music wire for is landing gear and pushrods....er.... try Bamboo Kabob Skewers to stiffen things up a bit, and keep the weight down. Maybe some carbon rods if you have any available. They can be re-used many times if they are taped on. Your cutout looks great.

As for thrust angles, I would try some up thrust to start, that way when you power up the nose will have a tendancy to rise, and power down to fall... I would put in some right thrust 2-3* if both props turn clockwise.

Good luck- looking forward to some build pics!
