How would you power this plane?

http://arthobby.com/gliders.html

My buddy has one on order and he wants to electrify it. Would it be better to power it as a hotliner or pylonracer? He also needs some direction as to what power system to use.

Thanks!
Ben

It looks like the limiting factor will be what size battery it will hold. It looks like 400/480 brushed or brushless will be the max. Hard to say without actually seeing it. Probably no "500W Ghost" thread in the future.

It's not very big for a glider (~280 sqin), so the best bet would be to power it more for speed and less for "hotliner" performance.

Thanks David! That makes total sense.

So perhaps a small brushless with a non folding prop?

Yeah, that's what I would do. You could try a small folder, but I suspect the glide won't be as nice as you'd like, since it's so small.

4.8v speed 400 on 7 cells of the gp110os or kan 1050's perhaps if they'll fit. A 380 brushless might also work great, like a little razor. I think the issue might be getting it to balance with all the weight of the motor, because it is a flying wing type. Would be a very fun project though!
