A New 2.4gr 1/72nd Scale 3ch SE-5 Biplane

Just finished test flying this new model, so I thought I'd share it with the group. I built a 1/72nd scale SE-5 sport scale model from sheet balsa. It's total weight is 2.4gr, span is a bit over 4 inches. It uses muscle wire for rudder and elevator control, about 60 position resolution. A 2.5V regulator drives the actuator to keep the travel and current down. The motor is the 4x8mm pager, low resistance, from Didel. Pretty much everything is custom/scratch from the radio to the gears to the prop. Radio is UHF frequency. Battery is the 20 mahr Kokam. Basically similar setup as my Ryan, but this is smaller overall and has a smaller motor. It flies wonderfully, very responsive, lots of climb, don't have a endurance time yet, should be a few minutes at least. The wing loading is around 2 oz/sq ft.
Hope you find it interesting, thanks. -Matt Keennon

Matt, you're the master!

This is indeed one of the niciest planes I've ever seen. Do you have anything to share about the UHF radio? Do you have a custom Tx as well, or do you hijack the output of a standard RC Tx (master-student port?) and feed the data into a custom transmitter? I tink I can see an Rx module in the model (the metallic canister), does it run on 433MHz? The antenna length seems to indicate something around that ...

Matt,

Awesome. It seems you have found a way to make the KBA look big! How thin did you mill the wing surfaces?

Matt,
I'm with Mike on this one. This plane makes a 4mm pager motor look huge. Great job. Now if you can get your friend to do the companion Fokker you could re-create your dogfights, but this time with palm-sized planes.
