Have you every Soldered on Music Wire (or whatever we call that wire we use for linkages control surface linkages)??

Luis. I've done it with regular solder with rosen in the center. As long as you are using the little brass bushings on each end, and make sure the ends are clean- you will be cool.

Earl- I guess size does matter.

BTW, outstanding job on flying the Formosa. You and Carlos did some great aerobatic flying. I found myself watching more than flying. Mine should be flying by next weekend. I've been looking at the new Himax 2815-1400 direct drive to install in the Formosa after seeing Ed's 232 fly. Has anyone else tried it?

I could not find a Himax 2815/1400 in my P-CALC pull down menu. However, the larger the motor the heavier it will be. Larger motor can swing a larger prop but, somehow the HIMAX 2825/2300 can not swing anything larger than a 7 or 8 inch prop without it's efficiency going way down and AMP draw going way up for a 10 X 7 prop.

I know that you would like to go Direct Drive so, why not consider the MEGA 16/15/7 turn and they are selling them at Bob's for a very good price last time I checked. The Himax can be flown most efficiently but, you need a gearbox such as the one show...about 9 minutes of wide open throttle flight duration assuming 3S1P THUNDER POWER 2100mAH, Li-POLYs.

I flew my newest SKY RAIDER MACH-II by WORLD MODELS 5 times for an average of 7 minutes. The longest flight was 9 1/2 minutes in that heat! I am thinking that this new TRITON charger by Great Planes is not doing such a good job as the ASTRO FLIGHT 112D

The SKY RAIDER MACH-I (High Wing Sport) model went up 5 times as well.

The GWS FORMOSA went up for two fantastic flights with super knife edge performance.

From the research i have done on that motor, It is a little heavier than the Mega 16/15/7 turn, by about 10grams. It supposedly is a similiar substitute to the Mega 7 turn. The Mega 7-turn being 1300Rpm/Volt is similar to the Himax 1400rpm/volt.
So In order to get some idea of the power you can get out of it, Use P-Calc's Mega 7.

Okay, using APC "E" 8 X 8 prop. for max air speed and in-flight thrust on that MEGA 16/15/7-turn direct dirve you are at 70 MPH airspeed and a whopper of thrust both in-flight and static.

Of course if you build the GWS FORMOSA completely stock I would NOT recommend to fly at that speed
