Question
Racing in Australia...

Well,... the locals from OZ got together whilst fixing their bike and got started talking about the current state of 1/5th bike racing in Australia,... well it didn't look to good, they all had a vote on it and they all agreed on one thing, there is none,.. everyone here in OZ drives boring touring cars and go on like their the best form of RC to race,... ( We don't think so!..) well, we all know their just bikes with 2 training wheels on one side don't we...!!!???

If their is anyone from OZ interested in racing 1/5th scale bikes or even in Queensland for that matter, get in contact with me (PM) or post here and we'll make something of it,... Australian 1/5th MotoGP Racing, bring it on..!!! Or we could just dream about it!..

Well,.. seeing that there's a few more of us Aussies on here now, I wonder if any of those lurkers were keen on fixing a date to hook up a race somewhere, oneday?,.. maybe in the big city, Sydney, at the Liverpool track..? (Just a thought!)

Shaun (Keen to race! ) in OZ..

Greek GP! HAHA!

I was fixing my bike this afternoon (details on the other thread) and was thinking about this too, Shaun... a race in Greece or somewhere else... I wished to go to Bologna in 2 weeks, but right now I cannot afford it, so it will stay a dream. However, I also asked myself how ready I am to race without problems, hassle and frustration of lost periods of racing...

I mean, everytime I take the bike out to run it, alone, on an EMPTY vast parking lot, there will always be some shunt, spill, end-over-end, you name it, with the bike usually in need of something... So, even though I consistently run the bike at least once a week, I always pack it up with some kind of damage that cannot be fixed on the spot... Usually, I will have ran the bike through 2 batteries max, which means 5+5 minutes on my little 1300s...

Maybe I need more practice?!
Maybe my bike is a Shelf Queen?!

No matter what, I still am not sure I would be able to race my bike with any success ... ops... don't get misled here... By success I mean success to finish ANY 5 minute race session!

And on top of that, I keep adding valuable stuff on the bike, like CF plates, Pat's brakes and so on!

I tell you... this bike is a total Shelf Queen, despite the scratches and battlescars!!!

In the end, however, I do enjoy more taking out the bike and run a battery or (luckily) two from time to time, than taking any 4-wheel r/c model out to run!

I am a biker, after all!

Cheers everyone!

Shaun,

I am trying to get the club interested in the bikes in Sydney but unfortunately I can't make our race this weekend (Bl00dy work) so I won't get to show the bike off until the round at the end of next month.
I will still try and get bikes running at the club and I think we might be able to get a group together to race at a club day as an invitation. It will more than likely electric.

DAM WORK ....its a dirty word

Cheers

Rolf

STelois,

I remember those days, too, when I first got my NF. With little resources, other than the Benwell page (much of which I didn't understand yet) I had to learn everything about the bike myself. Sometimes I laugh at some of the stuff I did. Putting 40wt oil in the rear damper= bounce, bounce, bounce. Filling the front forks about half way with oil and having the front end sliding out when the tire ( and everything else) got covered with it. Trying to hold the crashbars on with rubber bands and spending literally hours looking for them when they fell out. Trying to glue, tape, staple, screw, bolt, weld, vulcanize, etc. the stupid troll rider figure, so he would stay on the stupid bike. Using rubber bands to hold the battery pack on (more bounce, bounce) and then zip ties, instead of velcro straps (went thru a LOT of zip ties over time). Setting up a VERY solidly mounted steering linkage, making the bike slap over onto the fairing whenever I tried to turn ("What the heLL?"). Endless end-over-ends from overbraking on stock tires, bending rims and busting triple clamps and rear axles from too many high speed death runs into curbs, cars, walls, etc.. Ruining a rear bearing spacer from overtightening the rear axle nut. Making an aluminum battery pack holder because I didn't know where to get a new lexan one. It worked great, but added about 5 lbs. to the bike ( I don't use it anymore )

I used to joke that I would have to work on my bike for an hour for every 5 minutes I got to run it. Fortunately, I have managed to work out all the bugs in all the bike's setups, so I can run them all day without having to stop and putz with them. The only thing that stops for maintenance now is if I have a really nice crash, and since I gave up on wheelies, those are rare as well these days!!!

Shaun,

Maybe a little far for you to make it but NSWRCRCC's next 1/5th scale car race day is on the 28th November and I have been told that I can run the bike if we get enough guys I already have 2 other club members getting the TT Duc and I have the TT R1 now, so Sydney racing may just get under way after all.

Pat is you have the time maybe you want to drop by as well racing starts around 9:00am and last all day.

Will let you know more when it gets closer to race day.

Cheers

Sounds Cool Rolf,

The nitro is well underway, just need to finish getting the motor run in, receiver and linkages in, oh ... and some practice!

With or without the bike running, I'll be there!

Thanks for the update

Rolf,.. that sounds cool..! I'll have to make sure I don't spend to much till then, but I want to go down for sure..!!! I'll bring down 3 bikes, the nitro and the 2 electric bikes, just incase Pat's NF doesn't want to go!.. That way no one's left out and we still have the numbers up to get a spot on the day..! lol I hope I get my new nitro tank made by then..!

Hi Olly,.. long time no here..! I think it will be the first ever 1/5th scale race in OZ..., but up here at Brendale they told me they used to race 1/8th's there 6 - 8 years back!..

Shaun (Looking forward to 1st ever 1/5th AussieMoto race..!)

Hi Shaun,
It has been a bit of time now and my bike has got some dust on it.
When I find some time away from work I will need to get some practice in for
the Australian 1/5th MotoGP.

Yep, it'll be good to have our own 1/5 race here, I'm looking forward to it!..

Shaun, Pat and Olly.

I think I will have to say that this may not be an actual race but more of a demo for the other 1/5th scale guys to see if they will include bikes on their race day. I have the go ahead from the 1/5th Section head but I think that I will need to limit it to you 3 guys since you are not club members but others are welcome to come and watch or help out.

Not sure also on the format and lastly if the other car guys on the day put up to much of a fuss we may get canned.

I will let you know more soon I hope to have a chat to some of the club guys tomorrow night.

Shaun I know its a long way to come for something that may not happen so I don't want to cost you financially and will let you know ASAP.

BTW my ESC won't lock out reverse I brought a Nosram Patriot and the bl00dy thing won't disable reverse.

Cheers
