Banchee E-3D - Building and Flying, Part 2

WELCOME TO THE BANCHEE E-3D "BUILD AND FLY" THREAD -

NOTE: --------- THIS IS PART 2 OF THE THREAD ---------

Wow, great thread!
As the original has gone over 500 posts I'm going to split it into a more managable size for ease of reading and searching.
Since Harley started the original thread, I've gone back to one of his posts to start this thread as well.

The Banchee E-3D - Building and Flying part ONE can be found here

Enjoy!

Hi Cliff,

Wow.. Really sorry to hear about your Banchee.
I am afraid that I cannot shed any light on your problem though.
I use a Berg 6 channel with 5425 Hitec Digital Servos in
my Funtana and have never had an issue.
I also fly Bergs and Hitec in my Banchee and Freedoms, but I am not
using digital servos in those aircraft.
So, unfortunately, I have to assume that the problem is not universal.
I really cannot shed any more light on your problem..

One last thought though.. Were you using a full size antenna or were you
using one of the various Base loaded, shortened antennas?

One thing done in the big "Gassers" running digitals in the tail is to "braid" or twist the wires of the servo extensions together so they won't cause radio interference. That is why Hitec Digital servos have twisted wires instead of the "flat" servo wire used on analog servos. If you ran your antenna very close to those un-twisted wires, you effectively could have cut your range dramatically and/or experienced radio interference . Sorry about your loss !!

Bill,
See PM and call. What is a Litenna?

Bob,
Please tell me more; I do fly at the sea world field. That is where I am doing my test. What do you know about the berg and sea world?

Harley,

All the receiver I have tested have had a full length antenna.

Rick,
I did not know about the braiding. I will do that on my next banchee. But I have ruled out the servo extensions by doing a test with out the extension.

Cliff,

You can get more information about them here...

I use them on most everything that I fly and just love them.

Cliff,

Thats a bummer First I have to say you always need to do a range check on a new or heavily modified plane. What transmiter are you using? Bergs can't be used with Futaba radios that have synthesized RF modules.

I also think Litennas are great I have one on everything except my Freedom 3D only because I didn't have one handy when I built it but it will get one soon.

What a difference a servo makes

I was running HS-81's in my E-3D (I had a few on hand) Sloppy flying, very pitchy. Changed out to HS-85 (a little more torque). Brand new plane. It is a joy to fly.

Bottom line, get good servo's.

Thanks Harley, Just ordered the 60/6mm from ZB at Esprit. I looked around and like you said it seems he's the only place that carries the 6mm size of these.

He is great to work with! 2 minutes on the phone with a thank you at the end.

I won't have it by tomorrow so I'll be doing the maiden with the extended spinner. Oh well. AUW with the 10x1950's is 65 ozs. Starting with the 15x10 with the 17x10 and 18x10 on standby. May also try the 10x2600's but as you would expect it only adds a minute and adds a lot of weight.

Thanks for the help with the spinner,

Bill

Tried to fly Banchee #1 today after my spinners came in....WAAYYYY too much interfernce....im using a jazz 40-6-18, ubec, fun 500-27, and this one has a futaba 8 ch FM rx....it will be switched out too PCM and Im going to add an extension on the UBEC to move it further away from the rx/ant (today its within 1-2 inches)

any other suggestions? anyone else had problems?

Greatplanes has ASSURED me this combo will work......ill be sure to let everyone know if the ESC is up to the task

also, the rx had very short range w/o the motor running. would this be caused by the ubec being too close even if the motor is off? i seem to remember my last project that used a ubec had short range as well (Rumfal).

im at work the next 36 hrs but will be sure to probe more into this monday afternoon if i can stay awake :-)
