New DLG design from Mountain Models

We are getting close to release so I thought I'd give you guys a heads up about our new plane. My brother Matthew joined the company in February with a background in soaring so when he expressed an interest in designing a glider I said to go for it. This is the result.

The as yet unnamed DLG has a 50" wingspan, foam/carbon/fiberglass wing, G-Force boom, balsa/ply/fiberglass tail, and balsa/ply/fiberglass pod. It is rudder/elevator because we found that the performance is good that way and it simplifies the build. The airfoil is an AG24-AG27 for its compromise between strength and performance. The plane weighs in at around 8.5 ounces.

The plane will be offered as a kit. It will come with all the carbon, including CF pushrods, fiberglass, and laser cut wood. You will need some thin CA for the wood, and epoxy and Minwax Polycrylic for the glass.

Names and thoughts are welcome.

Dean,

Absolutely not!

We spent a great deal of time engineering those wings to make them both easy to build and strong enough to withstand a DLG launch, not to mention our more interesting landings while trying to fly in 15+mph winds. The wings don't make sense for a power plane.

On the other hand, it would be tough as nails...

Or since it kinda looks like a slow flyer

A GlideStik...

I'm not familiar with gliders. You buy a launcher and find a hill someplace? Suitable for beginners?

As you can see, my name suggestions are keeping with the MM brand.

How high of launches are you getting?
What's the wing area, Chord and other

I think a good discus launch glider name would be the 'Discosoar,' sort of a play on words. Looks very cool! Will the price be in line with your other kits?

Since it's not a full-sized DLG with a 50'' span, how about the "Discus Jr." or D.J. for short. That way when you bring out the 59'' span model it can be the "Discus Senior". Or maybe the "Disco Stu".
