Actually I was thinking something like this would not harm the airflow too much and would add to the "roundness" of the hull :

First drawings, and my tiny black panther, because I saw in the Youtube comments I should feature a cat for extra Internet points, so there it is.

Main arm is made with the thickest foam I have, 30mm.

Also 30mm for the "central" right solar panel :

20mm for the top and bottom panels :

Making the angle for the panels :

Sanding because the angle was wrong...

Dry fit :

The other central panel :

Gluing like that so both sides are the exact same :

Wife : "Are you sure it's going to fly ?"
Me : "Absolutely not, you might be right..."

My custom tool to cut 2 lines spaced 5mm :

That's to insert two 6mm carbon tube, to stiffen the main arm, one each side :

Some slight issue with blade clearance :

Putting another 6mm carbon the other side :

I like this view :

A shame I'll have to cut these, it's looking bonkers imho.

Testing the colors again...

That's after a test where I tried tome 7" props instead of 8", the Tie felt on its back and there was splinters of carbon everywhere

To be continued, next step is reducing all 4 panels in size, because I wrote above, it does not fly as-is, too heavy and too much airflow against the bottom of the lower panels.

RC hobby, not always working the 1st shot

Thanks,

This is the amount I'm going to shave of each panel, old size is blue, new size is orange.
.8 scale factor, so -36% area and -36% weight.

Also moving the COG backward a bit so I have the option to fit the Gopro and fly FPV.

Instead of cutting down all of the panels for airflow, what about just hollowing out the bottom panels? That way you'd be able to maintain the overall lines, size, and scale while still shedding some weight and improving airflow. Either way, looking forward to seeing the final product airborne!

Next you need to figure out a way to rig some laser pointers as blasters during night flying

Yes that's an option, but I think that, right now, the issue is first with vibrations, aggravated by overweight.
So if I remove the inside of the panels, I'll gain weight, but I'm fairly certain it will make vibrations even worse.

Anyway, cutting is done now !

Gained 40gr per side, soweight is down from 420 to 340gr, lighter than the Falcon.
Still looks like a spaceship, *phew* :]

LIFTOFF!!! WOOWHOOO!

After many many MANY attemps and trimming and different settings and 14 (yep fourteen) broken propellers, it's now airborne for real and stable, and if it flies in the garage it will fly anywhere.
The Falcon flew at the first shot, but god this one was tough to tweak.

I called my 2 boys to witness the thing hovering and we where all 3 like "Bwehehehehehee"

End of this week : Scale details, blasters, thruster, etc and paint.
