Another new version...

I've inserted a Logo 10 sheet, updated the component data (added some AXI motors), and added a tiny feature to the spreadsheet.

I think 60 oz is a good number. For the power settings, I use 300, 415 and 850W for "standard" setups, and 350, 500 and 1000W for "HV" versions (i.e.-- 8s2p...).

Is it possible to add the TANIC Li-Po cells and the new Tango 45-09 motors?

I removed the Tanic cells that I used to have in there because I wasn't entirely confident in the resistance and cell voltage data I had. If someone (Gary, perhaps?) can provide me with some reliable info on the Tanic cells, I'll be happy to add them.

I'll also add the Tango 45-09 if someone can provide me with its kV, Io, Rm and weight.

I don't think it is possible to get reliable Tanic pack data!

Bug Fix & New Component Data.

I fixed a bug in the spreadsheet and added six new AXI motors to the Component Data (the 2208's and 2212's).

Miro - Do you mean a complete list of different helis? The four that are in there are the configurations I put together on my own. Other folks have built heli configurations as well, but I don't actually have them.

At some point, I do plan on compiling a list of all the e-helis I can find. The list would include the main gear tooth count, available pinion gears, rotor diameter, and typical empty-weight of each heli. It would be a great reference to include in the spreadsheet. In fact, if anybody has such a list - I'd love to see it.

KC,

I have an older version of Excel (Excel 97) and some of the functions in the Optimize sheet don’t work. The previous versions work but the ROUND function generates an error (function not defined).

Any suggestions?

So ROUND doesn't exist in Excel 97? Hmmmm... Try replacing any occurrance (search and replace) of "ROUND" with "ROUNDUP" or "ROUNDDOWN". I think the ROUNDUP and ROUNDDOWN functions were there in Excel 97. If not - see if there's some other rounding function you can use. The ROUND function is only used for display purposes in the spreadsheet, so you could get rid of it entirely without affecting the functionality - some of the info would just look ugly because it'd contain numbers out to a dozen decimal points.

If the ROUND function weren't used so extensively, I could easily replace it with some more VB - but as it stands, that'd be quite a task at my level of expertise. If we can't find any other way, I may do it regardless. It'd be a shame if Excel 97 users couldn't use the niftier functions of the spreadsheet.

What optimization functions don't work in Excel 97? I may be able to work around those, as well.

Unfortunately, this is one of the fallouts of using more advanced features of Excel 2k...

I am very happy with the tool - however there is a problem with the optimisation tool. If I follow your instructions and set the constraints, set the ranges for motor and batteries - I can then run the optimisation and get results.

But as soon as I change some parameters afterwards, I always get an VB error in the following line if I click on optimize again:

Sheets("Optimization Output").Range(Delete_Range).Delete

Any advise on how to avoid this error is very welcomed.

Getting a error

Hi :-)
When I try to open the spread it asks for a network connection, then it comes up with this message:
<-snip---
Microsoft Excel File Repair Log

Errors were detected in file 'Power_System_Comparison.xls'
The following is a list of repairs:

Lost Visual Basic project.
Lost ActiveX controls.
---/snip>

Any clue to what I am doing wrong?

Thanks. Great tool..

Bernhard - good catch. There was an error in the VB code for the Efficiency and RPM Drop optimization routines. I've fixed the problem and updated the spreadsheet.

flypilot - that's a new one to me. I haven't encountered those errors myself. It almost sounds as though something about your installation of Excel is fundamentally incompatible with the spreadsheet. What version of Excel are you running? What version of Windows?
