Pleas help recommend charger

Hi, I'm new to this electric stuff and just ordered and 10 cell faup 1950 pack. There are so many chargers on the market, I have no clue what to get. What is the best charger on the market for under $300?

Thanks for you help!
Ben

bang for the buck i would say schultze 330-d. you can get the serial port version if you dig graphing stuff on your PC. the 330 will do anything you can throw at it.

hmm, check for best price, but here are some:

i-care
rc-direct

I would throw 330-d into the search to see where people got theirs. it will be around 210-219 I believe (I paid the same 2 years ago)

Yes, I just did read the archives and it seems to come between the triton or the schulze. My main concern is what to use for a power source at the field. I would hate to carry large automotive battery. Will these work off the smaller 12v batteries you see at the electonic stores? I saw one the other day that looked about half the size of a small car battery.

Do they both need a 25 amp power supply when using at home? I remember good power supplies being very expensive.

Triton only needs 8A power supply...you can make one out of an old computer power supply...very simple conversion...i can help you with that if you need. Also check into the cosel power supply if you go with the triton...its at www.ramboy.com/cosel.htm $24 shipped and simple to convert too. The triton will work off off smaller 12v batteries, but it wont last long. I use a 95Ah deep cycle marine battery for the field...enough juice for a full day of flying...you can buy a cart with wheels at like lowes or home depot so you dont have to carry it...me I'm 25 so its good exercise. Happy Flying

Thanks for the info Joe. I have a small 10 amp power supply I got from Fry's for $54 a few years ago. Looks like the Triton is the ticket for me since the schulze needs a bigger power supply.

How many charges do you think I would get out of a small 12v battery? 3-4 charges would be good enough for me.

Thanks!

For a field supply, you can use one of the emergency jump start packs (like the Coleman one). Get the largest one you can find.

They weigh 15 lbs maybe. BTW, there are better and cheaper units than the Coleman one but it is for illustration. The handle and light are nice to have. They recharge an internal 12v battery off the mains when not in the field. In fact the guys at the LHS use the batteries out of scrapped ones for their field boxes. Will easily run a blender for margaritas. Handy.

I have the shulze 330D, and love it.

You only need a 25 amp charger, if you want to charge 20-30 cells at 5 amps!

For normal use, (say 8-12 cells), you only need a bit more amps, than you want to charge at. I've been using a cheap 13.8V 10A power supply made by trip lite - about $60.

The Schulze is much higher quality than the triton, and the shulze will charge lipos up to 5.5 amps, where the triton will only do 2 amps.

The shulze has 2 battery charging circuits, that can charge any type battery, simultaneously. Though the second output is limited in output voltage and amperage.

For field chaging, I just use my car battery.

Thanks for the info Don. I just bought an orbit 6.2 from the "for sale" section. How does it compare to the schulze?
