F-4 Phantom II - First look...

I've just finished cutting the kit for my F-4 Phantom II (about 2.5 hours worth). I've designed this to be an extremely simple and quick building model especially for the many flyers out there with left over parts from the Kyosho T-33s and F-16s but no airplane to put them in. The plans will also include the birch ply mounting flanges which are epoxied to the Kyosho fan unit to make it a bit more orthodox to mount inside an airplane. Converting it to MF480/BL would be an easy modification.

Missing from the picture below are the wing cores (the reason the cutting on bulkheads F-5 & F-6 isn't quite finished yet), wing skins, top sheeting and nose block(s).

Basic specs are:

Length: 49 inches
Wingspan: 29 inches
Wing area: 345 sq. in.
Projected weight: 32 oz.
Projected wingloading: 15 oz./sq. ft.
Power: Kyosho Fan/AP-29L
Batteries: 7- CP1300 (250W)
Bulkheads: Lite Ply
Fuse & tail feathers: Balsa
Wings: Balsa sheeted foam cores w/ailerons

In the near future I will place a page online with the numerous (And I mean numerous!) cool paint jobs I've found for the Phantom. I'll post more pics later, but for now, it's back to the shop to start building. Yee Haw!

Hi Daren,

This place is having such a hard time displaying images, so you might want to post them over at Silent Flight Online over in the image base.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the offer. I'm hosting them on my site and linking to them from here so it shouldn't be a problem.

Bill,
I had the same problem here. Tried the old right mouse click and looked at properties for one of the pictures. (Note: This will get you real close when you run into this again) I came up with http://www.allaboutguppys.com/f-4/f-4_dc3b.jpg%20width=
. Just delete % and everything after it. That will get you to picture f-4_dc3b.jpg. Back it up to http://www.allaboutguppys.com/f-4 and you'll get the root directory with 4 pictures in it.

Sorry guys. I recently had a problem with Network Solutions. Those who were having problems are probably on a DNS which is a bit slower to propagate. You shouldn't have any problems now.

Steve,
Thanks for the kind words. Hopefully, I should have this ready in time for the MWE.

Hi Daren,

I followed Steves directions and I was able to view it there. Looks really nice, slap her together now and and shoot some more pictures.

Looks good Daren!

Mind if I offer a little heads up on F-4s? I've built two a big one and a small MF480 one. The model lands nose high. That's good. Since it lands nose high the tail hits first. That's bad. The stabs are the first to meet mother earth and it can break them off or the whole tail section just in front of the vertical fin. That's ugly

Some reinforcement may be required.

Thanks Bill. I'm planning on slappin' this one together as quickly as possible. BTW, that's no laser. Cuts by me (with a little help from Dremel!).

Thanks for the head's up Kevin. The stabs are glued and fiberglass is drying even as we speak!

Thanks, I've been there, too. To break the stabs off, it must be landing pretty nose high! Breaking the tail off doesn't sound like too much fun, either.

Absolutely, positively gotta have one

I've wanted a DF F-4 since I saw plans for an IC Phantom years back in RCM (I think). Please put me on the list for plans/kit! If there's no list, start one please and put my name up top!

Gotta have one

Hi Jim,
If I recall correctly, that was the diesel powered one, correct? There's no list at present, but when there is I can make you number two; I'm number one.

Hmmm Daren, if there is room to put a KY in there, would there be a way to jam two fans units of sometype in there?
