Hey Stretch1
The wing on your Funda is a KFM3, are you pretty happy with its performance? I just recently built a wing with a KFM2 and it flies better than I expected. FKM's save a lot of weight on the TE since they are single layers, and with coro the weight adds up fast.

G'day Corocrumpler,
It's actually closer a KFM4 , except that the step is at a bit over a third of chord rather than a half, and it's not really a true KF step as the trailing edge of the step is the same height as the leading edge. I've built a couple of foamies with a KFM1 styled foil and they seemed to fly pretty well. ( There are plenty of pics in my blog.)

I've used posterboard foam for the top and bottom steps on this wing to keep the weight down. (4mm coro for the wing and 'fuse', 2mm with bamboo inserts for the vertical stabilisers) There's a carbon arrow shaft along the leading edge as well.

I wanted to build a simple airframe that wouldn't flex under high speed loads.

( I'd eventually like to end up with something I can bolt my 1200W funjet running gear into.)

Stretch1,
You are correct, I had my KFM3 and KFM4 confused. The foam is an interesting way of creating a step without adding a lot of weight, and works well. Please post a video when you fly a new plane with the 1200 watt set up, that is a lot of juice! I also use carbon fiber arrow shafts, as main spars, sometimes I bundle them and screw the ends together to get a long enough spar. They work well and are readily available.

To reinforce, and I know you're trying to keep weight down so I don't know how much this would weigh, you can make your own filler junk out of Silicone and Corn Starch. Glue your light ply or hardwood mounting plates in place. Cover your retract parts with a balloon. HUH??? All the old FF guys will just say ok. Partially blow a balloon up, press your part into the side of the balloon opposite of the stem and as you get the item into the balloon start letting the air out of the balloon. Smooth out the rubber of the balloon. Mix up the Silicone/corn starch and press it into place in the wing between the upper and lower skin and press your part into place. You're looking to displace any goop in the area under the retract mechanism. Let it setup and pull your part back out, remove the balloon and you should be able to mount the retract into a section of wing that is solid. Don't know how heavy it will be yet. You could use Micro Balloons. I don't know how much lighter that would be. Here is the link to the above goops webpage on the Instructables website.

Should make it solid at least.

Hi Spaderman. Good to see you were able to get a Mig built! Sorry I could not have been of more help with a kit when you asked a few years back.
It looks real nice, I'm impressed with the retracts. I tried unsuccessfully to put landing gear on the scale Mig 7 but gave up because it just didn't work. (for me anyway) Glad you had success.

Looks Nice!
