Upcoming new F5B motors (up 200A) from Electronic Models

Hi; for information:
under test from 2003 french champion (Michel Uzan) are 3 new high power motors upcoming from Electronic Model ( http://www.electronicmodel.com/ )
They do not feature on website yet.

They sound promising:
the FAI motor is even lighter by 35g than the Ariane W (carbon matrix) motor and consumes 16A less to turn a 17 * 18 under 18 cells at the same speed than the Airane W. It turns it at 170A (with a 17*18, not usual 16*16 or 16*17)

Specs communicated:

FAI version: kV 3300, 5.2:1, weight 250g, Prop RFM 17*18, consumption 100 to 200A. If new next rule is indeed 16 cells they might have to rewind it (?).

F5F (10 cells) version: kV 6300, 6.7:1, 230g, 100-200A

F5B-7 version: kV 6300, 5.2:1, 230g, 100-200A

No other info available yet... I don't know the RPMs the prop is really turning at. But it seems EM is catching up good with the very best.
I'd like to see that in flight !

I use their Chronos 40 with Reisenauer 5:1 gearbox. Its currently in my Stork 2Pro E where it will pull vertically, although I dont, on 10xgp3300 and 18x12.

They don't match the gearbox to the motor as well as the Hackers, however the motor has better inbuilt cooling. Their outrunner also gives excellent performance in sports planes.

Right now, probably because of the gearbox cost, they haven't been price competitive with the Hackers, at least since the $US depreciated.

From the gearbox specs you are quoting it looks as if they are moving to the Maxon gearboxes. Historically they have had lower wind motors geared less highly.

Like many other F5B specialities, you need to know what to ask for...
It is in the top of the pricelist here:

Ah, the Ariane WM.... Looks a bit like the MEB (Bloch) they used to do:

or even more like the "carbonized" kontronik they used to have. I suppose this one is a rebuilt Kontronik FAI 18 then? They certainly are not throwing the specs around...

The beauty is inside
Gearbox housing is integrated with the motorhousing, output pinion is cut directly in the motor shaft, the usual disc holding the three small gearwheels is weight reduced etc.
In 2002 the donor motor for the rebuild was a Hacker.

Well, seems we are talking motors (more than) twice the price of a hacker B40 FAI !
Ariane-Carbon-Competition 6,7:1 is listed at 425 Euros... If EM sells at a reasonable cost and they hold same perf at lower amps and lower weight, they could have a real winner.

Wim, are you a beta tester for EM, or did they really start selling those motors ?
Is that a Robbe Planeta Power gearbox ? How many watts can it stand ?

My selmade glider has not moved much: business trip + hollydays trip + I made a 3D EPP parkflier in between... However I am ready to move on again:
- I have installed balsa inserts around wing screws areas
- I have re-cut some badly done wing joiners plywood supports and just sarted to glue them, then I will finalize wing servos installation in cores and cut the wing skins.
- I have found a working vacuum pump motor, just need to plug it (=> this week)
- I have some good carbon strips (20 mm wide) for wings reinforcements in the middle
=> I will try to skin the wings and rudder / elevator over next 2-3 weeks / Week ends.
One more week for linkages etc, then it shall be ready for a maiden (at last !). I see more and more winch launches and electro gliders, and days with bad wind orientation, and I have no plane that's good in such uses, so I am really motivated to finish that up first priority...

I wish... 't was a photo Sebastien ( an EM dealer) got from Fabrice Noro (=EM) and forwarded to the Belgian "F5B crowd". In his post he seems to indicate that the first batch of these is already sold out, and obviously there's not much
chance of a second one?

The gearbox is an "EM" gearbox, looks like the Robbe planeta a bit, but is probably different inside. afaik Robbe planeta's only existed in 3.7 . Should be good for 2000-3000W short time I guess...
