Best F3b Glider in the Launch ?

My Ceres lift was destroyed. There are no spare hulls longer available because the mold is damaged
I am looking again for the F3B glider with the best performance during launch and in thermal duration.
Speed and distance are less important to me.

Which model displays currently the best results in the launch during F3B contests?

Which model launches best is always difficult to assess since launch is dependent on set up and technique as well as the airframe.

The Fosa Lift would probably be a good choice for you. It launches very well and is probably one of the best F3B models for duration (and distance).

Hi Sebastian. Sorry to hear about your Ceres.

+1 for FL

A glider with the stiffest airframe especially spar/ wing system will launch best IMHO. The Baudis gliders all qualify for top spots on this basis. My old Ceres and now Fosa Lift don't bend much on launch. The Fosas with RDS reduce parasitic drag so the ping/zoom is optimised.

The two Estrellas I had despite the innovative layup with loads of carbon fabric had relatively bendy wings.

Thanks for reply

@ Kiesling, DrFragnasty

Regarding fosa lift you have confirmed my suspicions
What's the difference at launch to the freestylers 4 ?

@ BO

Good to know, but vat, customs tax and shipping to Germany would be beyond my budget

Hi Sebastian,

Check out the competition dates near you on www.f3b.de.
Go to see a competition and you will see that modern planes CAN launch perfectly; setup and pilot skills however may vary a lot..... ;-)

Regards,
Nick

Hi Nick,

A few years ago I visited some F3b competitions
and have even participated.
Back then you could still see the differences in the performance of the models
But now it's different. Watching them does not help.
The competitive success depends not only on the high start altitude
Here in rc groups I have the opportunity to talk with pilots who have already tried both planes and maybe even collected data

Regards,
Sebastian

You need to consider lead time.
E.g with the fs4 you need to wait a long time.

I am very impressed how the Fosa Lift launches. It not only launches high, you can also launch heavy (over 4kg in wind) and still get a good launch.

But with that being said, any current F3B plane will launch impressively if set up and flown properly. However, I felt it was rather easy to unlock good launching with the FL.

I have used the Fosa Lift in a F3J contest in windy conditions and fared well. In contrast to some more slippery design it hangs really well.

Best,
Reto

Hi Reto,

Thank you for your detailed description
Exactly these characteristics I'm looking for.
I want to use the model at time flight competitions, at the beginning
Often I have to drive there the winch and have to launch by myself.

Now I'm sure to order the right successor.

Hi Sebastian,

Another model that would fulfill your requirements is the Shooter. It is very easy to fly, hangs very well and has also a strong launch. It is hard to explain it, but the airplane feels floaty and makes duration tasks easier than other B planes. Maybe you can get a used one in Germany, they were very widespread in the KiKa team.

The Extasy launches well an is a good thermaller as well. I think it would be worth a go if you find a good used one.

Hi Reto,

some time ago I had the opportunity to compare a shooter with the CL because I flew more often with Armin's father on a slope.
I think the shooter is even a little bit better if conditions are weak.

FS 4 and shooter actually retire due to long delivery time,
but it is in any case a way, if I can get a used one in very perfect condition.
U.Trautwein sold one last year.

@satinet
I'll think about the Extasy.
