Wing Retainer System

Keep those wings on without loose hardware

Simple Wing Retaining System

Setting up and tearing down a sailplane with multiple wing panels is not the most fun part of your day. Who wants to spend time tightening set screws or taping up those outboard panels when you could be flying. This Wing Retaining System is a nice clean solution. Once installed, just slide your panel into place and the plastic fastener will lock the wing on. A plastic wedge tool is supplied to easily separate the panels when you're ready to pack it back up.

Check out the Wing Retainer System at Esprit Model.

How do you get at the retainer slot when its buried inside the inboard and outboard panels? I can see how you can get at the root if you have access inside the fuselage (which I do on most of my big gliders.

Couple of hooks and a rubber band are cheap.

These are OK but a bit brittle. I have already replaced one set due to dropping a wing panel, as the plastic retainer clip snapped off. My advice is to order extras when you buy the product.

I am not sure I understand how these work or how you disconnect them. I might still use tape to seal the gap but a more secure way to connect the wing sections might be desirable anyway.

Would it work on a Radian type wing where the wings join inside the fuse?

The pins snap into the socket. You remove the wing by inserting the wedge between the wing root and fuselage and prying them apart. With the Radian, you would have some difficulty getting the wedge between the two wing panels, since it's inside the fuselage. I also think the foam would make a poor edge to pry against with the wedge.

use tape, my brothers - it's cheap, easy, and it works - the best pilots just use tape!
