Foamie MiniMustang with CDROM Motor
Flew my new 22" MiniMustang today with my first attempt at winding a CDROM motor. Better that 1/1 powert-to-weight ratio. Rudder, elevator, aileron, and throttle, using GWS R4P, Phoenix 10 ESC, Cirrus CS-4.4sevos. All-up weight 4.0 ounces with 2S 700 LiPoly, and 4.5/4 GWS prop. Tried a 340 LiPoly, but the current was too high, and puffed up the battery.
 Motor spins up to 13K with this prop. Blueman has one that goes to 21,000 rpm. WOW! Thanks to all the guys who started the CDROM movement. Not that I needed ANOTHER hobby!  Gary |

In Flight
Reatively high wing loading results in a VERY stable model, even in 12 mph bumpy wind. Loops and rolls were performed, but I saw the wings bend a little, so gonna wait for smoother air to fly next time.

A Closer view
Thanks to Rob (Blueman) for providing the motor and prodding me into a re-wind. I'm anxious to fly this plane in smoother air, because it was really smooth in the rough air.

Sorry, no plans. I simply drew a profile on the fanfold and started cutting. Amp draw is 6.5 Amps static at full throttle. Motor gets scalding hot, too. Lucky for me the plane will fly at less that half throttle. Can anyone tell me if the Amps will go down when I put the stronger magnets in it? Presently using the stock magnet ring. Thanks. Gary |

Prop it down a size or two and that heat problem should go away. Also remember that heat hurts the magnets. I've found that a lower pitch really helps these motors kick in gear also. But nice job all around. Lovethese small models.

The new N45 magnets will bring down the amp draw. Take a look at just about any of the CD-ROM conversion threads out there. Niels Prolifet (not sure about the last name) has done a CD-ROM in an EDF. That thread has a lot of really good information. Take a read.
