The MiG-29 was temporarily put on hold by my <i> rainy weekend </i> quick-build Eurofighter project, while I was waiting for essential parts for the MiG...

I already turned the power on a few times to test the ducting (which luckily did not implode yet - but did wake up the neighbors). Power is twin MF480 & HP 200-25-4 on 12xCP1700, drawing about 2x35x12=840 Watts. Finished weight is estimated at around 62 oz.

I'm sure that the Mig will be an outstanding success, Interesting how you have started a big commotion about having nothing to build and don't care to design your own, then ...POW ...two brand new, scratchbuilt MF-480 designs... Fantastic job so far Herb! Looks like it might be time for a dogfight or two with the bug once it is finished! I bet you with the motivation jammed into the arse end, it should go like a scalded cat! Keep us updated on this one buddy.

I could'nt run the power up completely since the ducting is not yet completed in the front, and I'm afraid the intakes might collapse with the twin Plettenbergs screaming

The first test flight should be in about two weeks, all the electronics is installed, I need to glass the bottom & finish & prime the top.

To answer Kevin's question, it is a hybrid between the Offshore plan & my own modifications using a set of original <A href=http://aeneas.ps.uci.edu/edf/mig29/mig-29.zip> 3-d views </A>, a plastic model & a set of rather detailed MiG-29 <A href=http://aeneas.ps.uci.edu/edf/mig29/spanten-mig29.zip> formers </A> from Spunki. The Offshore plan calls for a 66mm impeller, I re-did the formers to accept two MiniFans 480's & slightly scaled up the whole ducting cross-sections to account for the larger fans.

I also modified the wing profile (thinner wing, MH22) & thinned the vertical tail fins. Otherwise it was a continuous struggle with weight issues, in November I spent quite some time comparing the weights of the balsa sheets at the LHS !

Needless to say, the weight did not come out as expected, instead of 62 oz it's now at a hefty 68 oz, but it still lies in the 750-800 Watts range...

With those CP-1700 and 35 amp draw you'll have 3 minutes of full power, correct?

Even if you have ESC's that can handle half throtle al the way, you still have no more then 5 minutes worth of power?!

How about 8x RC-3000 runing at full bore.

Well I had two cans of testors sea gull gray, so I couldn't resists it. In the meantime I got some expert opinion on the power train (my wife) and the response was: don't fly it!

you power set up s very similar to my A-10 and my weight is also 68oz
