Flying the Xtreme Decathlon in IAC Competition

I had a great time in Borrego Springs recently, competing in the Hammerhead Roundup hosted by International Aerobatics Club chapter 36. I entered the contest in my new Xtreme Decathlon in the Sportsman category.

I flew down early to get some practice time in. I got some ground coaching from Michael Church and Casey Erickson the day before the event. Thanks to their assistance I ended up flying pretty well considering it was my first contest in my new plane.

I took a video from the cockpit during one of my flights.

Xtreme Decathlon N210XD IAC Sportsman 2014 Borrego Springs (3 min 59 sec)

Since the contest I've been practicing the Intermediate figures in between the low overcast and frequent rain showers and fog we have to put up with this time of the year in Oregon.

Beautiful Plane. Looks like my RC HK Decathlon same color and similar paint scheme.

I admire how you stayed on the exact flight path and maneuvers each time, that was Great.

Thanks for posting

Jim, you are a great pilot. I get a front row seat when you practice, we live nearly directly below your practice airspace. Keep it up!!

Gosh, I miss flying my old Super-D! It was the plane I trained in when learning aerobatics. Thanks so much for the video. It brought back some wonderful memories! And great flying, BTW!

Jim,
The only I see wrong is you have the plane & I don't!
Great to see you back onto the circuit. Now how about you bring it up to Prosser, WA for the Prosser Fly In on July 19th and our RC Warbird event on August 29~31? You'd be a HUGE bonus in our promotion for an RC venue.

Thank you! It's hard to share videos like this because all I see is my mistakes.

I'll be there if I can but this year I have a lot of "full scale" acro contests I'm committed to so there isn't a lot of time left in the schedule.

Awesome. Hopefully the "show" will get better and better as I get more time in the plane, and as I start to work on more advanced figures. Enjoy!

I'm currently planning to attend the IAC competition in Delano, CA that weekend so I won't be able to attend the fly-in in Prosser. Thanks for the invitation!

Curious how you're liking the Xtreme, Jim. I'm curious how much better it really performs over an old 8KCAB?

I was out of the box at one point. Some of the other mistakes are hard to see but they are there. You can feel the mistakes when you are in the plane and you can see them from the ground but they can be hard to see from a cockpit camera.
