Lipo Battery voltage too low

I have a 3s3p TP 2100 Lipo pack and by mistake I left it connected to my speed controller in the plane for 4 days. Although, the switch on ESC was off, it still drained my battery and now my Triton charger is unable to charge this pack. It keeps on saying the battery voltage is too low. I checked the voltage on each cell and sure enough, its showing 2V.

My question is that is there any way I can bring back the pack to life?

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried a lower charge rate? Say .5A?

Barry,

If the cells have dropped below 3V at rest then you are required to charge at 1/10C to bring them back upto 3V per cell. Once at 3V you can then charge the pack normally.

If you have limited resources then you may have to be creative on how you do that. These are NOT suggestions just thoughts and any may end in disaster.

if the cells read 2V then the pack voltage is 6V this is the same as a 2S pack at discharge

Most NI? charges can be set to very low charge rates

Of course as soon as the pack reads 9V it can then be charged under supervision in the normal way. The only creative thing is to get it to 9V.

Anything that you try is risky so take the normal precautions when doing risky things and watch very carefully for any signs of danger.

Can we get this issue put in a big red sticky on the forum???

We've had at least 3 of these in the past week, that I've read.

Batty,

Set the Triton to 7.4V/1Amp, you can charge the pack to 8.2 - 8.4V, then try again with 11.1V/1Amp setting.

Repeat the process if the charger stop charging.

Charlie

So Batty,

what happened?
I'm curious because, that also happened to me, the same way, and they here brand new etec cells.
2s2p 1200, and my schulze charger refuse to charge them (warning wrong cell count), and the voltage were 1.5v.
So Iím afraid, their really dead.

Okay,

Good news. I tried it on one 3s cell. I charged it at 7.4V/1A and after a few minutes, my Triton complained that battery voltage is too low. I kept on resetting and repeating this process and each time, tiny amount of current would be pushed in. After 4 tries, the voltage reached > 7 volts or so. I then used the 10.8V setting of my Triton and charged it to 10V. After that it was charging like normal.

During the whole time, the battery did not even get warm, therefore I'm sure that no damage occured. Now I've to bring back the other two packs.

Good Luck and Thanks Charlie for suggesting this trick.

Hey,

I'm not sure if this was the safest thing to do, but here's what I did.

I, too, had discharged my LiPo battery pack such that it was reading about 1.5 volts per cell. My Triton EQ refused to charge it. If I set it to charge to 7.4 volts, it would complain that the cell voltage was too low. If I set it to 3.7 volts, it would "charge" for 2 seconds, and be done. So here is what I did:

1. Disconnected the balancing lead
2. Set the charger to charge a NiCD battery at 0.1 amps
3. Let it charge for 5 minutes.

After that, I manually stopped the charging, reset the Triton EQ, and charged the LiPo battery as normal. Everything seemed to work fine.
