Mini Crow – 3D Printed Mini H Frame / Quad
Mini Crow – Mock Up And Build
Mini Crow – 3D Printed Mini H Quad for FPV
BIG THANKS to Julian aka JJMelo!
Now - Lets get to the mock-up/build -
The OE frame setup weighs 73 grams.
With my mod, the weight is 100 grams.
The OE frame has the arms sandwiched between the lower and center plates,
and bolted directly to the two.. This is fine, but, I wanted to have a bit more room.
The OE frame has the ESCs mounted on the arms..
I'm hoping to mount the PDB and ESCs in the new lower/dirty section -
[This will depend on configuration, positioning, and size of the components]
[I also have an LED harness that I would like to try to fit in there. We'll see.]
To do the mod, I used 10mm standoffs - 3 per arm,
and mounted them between the top of the arms and the center plate..
The rest of the [upper] frame assembly is pretty straight forward..
The OE setup uses 31mm standoffs 1 on each corner of the center/top plate..
I added more standoffs.. 1 on each end/side..
I figured that this would help the overall rigidity of the frame..
The plates are 3mm in thickness - The arms are 5mm in thickness..
The frame is now super-solid.. Probably over-kill, but, go big or go home.
The material is PVC, so the arms have a bit of 'flex' . . .
This is probably a good thing in the event of a crash . . .
Speaking of the arms . . .
Julian was nice enough to custom print mine for me..
I'll be using RCX/ZMR 1804 - 2400kv motors,
and the hole-pattern and hole-diameter have to be dead-on..
This is sort of a pain, but Julian nailed it!
Now I just need to find some longer screws -
The motor screws are M2 X 4m
The arm thickness is 5mm, so I'm thinking M2x7mm should be perfect..
2mm of thread going up into the motor base should be plenty -
More about the arms . . .
My previous frame had 1.5ishmm arm thickness..
To make them stronger, I customized some cf 'braces',
and mounted them to the tops of the arms..
They really stiffened them up.. a LOT..
I 'might' end up doing this same mod to the Mini Crow arms,
but I'm still in the daydreaming stage - Nothing's set in stone -
Well, I think that's pretty much it for now..
I do have one more thing to show, but,
I'll save that for the next post.. It's funny..

We can thank sleep-deprivation for this one!
It's too bad that I couldn't come up with a 'crow'..
One of my Syma X1 quads came with a 'BumbleBee' canopy..
A 3S 1300mAh LiPo battery seems to fit perfectly inside of it . .
I mocked this up as a joke, but, flying like this would be funny!
Never a dull one -

Glad you're happy with the frame. I've been having a blast with mine, flying FPV. I'm seriously thinking about selling my Nex Neo Quad. These small ones are a blast. Flying between trees, jumping fences. I crashed mine yesterday. Hit a tree branch. Broke my front props, but that was it. It is soooooo agile and sporty. I'm loving it.

Thanks a million, and yes sir, I am super happy with the frame!
You did an awesome job, and I can't wait to get it up in the air..
It is definitely going to be a blast tinkering with things in the meantime..
Ah, that's great that you've been having so much fun flying!
FPV has got to be a blast! I can't wait til' I can get some gear..
I had to look up the Nex Neo Quad - That's a really nice rig!
Haha I hear you though! These minis just seriously rock!
Sorry to hear that your quad got into a fight with that tree branch,
but it's great to hear that everything is okay! Props are 'expendables'.

Tonight I finally got to sit down and jam!
This build has been an absolute blast so far -
The only hold-up now is custom-length motor-screws..
Hopefully I'll be able to get them by mid-week,
and get this done.. I can't wait!
As always: Pics - Pics - Pics!

Since the M2 screws for the arms/motors
have to be special ordered in an 8mm length,
I used Fastenal - Here are the links:
I recommend using TWO washers per screw
in order to take up some of the extra thread-length..
M2 X 8mm Screws -
A note about the M2 screws:
The OE screws have a course thread..
The linked screws have finer threads -
Even though they're different, they WILL work!
I snugged them all up nice n' over-tight!
M2 Flat Washers -
The hardware is super-cheap,
but I found out the hard way - Shipping isn't..
Store to store or to your door, it's about $6.00,
so, order more stuff than you need to save -
Also, here's the link to the M3 screws too -

808 CAM MOUNT
I mounted my RX PCB to the bottom of my FC,
and the pins/plugs face forward, so, my 808 cam wouldn't fit..
I figured I'd make a mount..
I used the batty cover from a broken Syma X1 TX,
cut it to shape, drilled some mounting holes,
and used M3 X 8mm machine screws to mount it to the frame..
I also used rubber grommets to help with vibration dampening..
It fits - Hopefully it works too!

Today was 50 degrees,
so I figured I'd break out the quad for its maiden..
It was flying great, I managed to pull off a flip,
but it was windy, and the quad got a bit wobbly flying out..
By the time I smoothed it out.. *Whack* right into the garage..
No props were harmed during this flight..
But, both right-side arms sheared right off..
Buzz Kill -

I might not be a doctor,
but that didn't stop me from fixing broken arms!
Hopefully the repair will hold up - I guess time will tell..

Flight # 2 -
I was flying the quad in tight circles around a sign post,
the yaw freaked out, quad spun, prop clipped the sign,
the quad fell 3-4 feet down into the grass..
1st shattered prop.
The buzz kill . . .
3rd shattered arm. *sigh*

Well, I still can't fly the quad [all the arms cracked]
so I figured I'd hit the shop, and mod a few things -
I wanted to be able to see into the center section
in case I end up having to go with a KK2.0/2.1 FC,
so what better than to make a clear top-plate..
It came out so good,
I made a bottom plate and center plate too -
