Cool! Lots of work. I did mine by taping the whole mouth and spraying in white, then friketing the teeth and spraying in red.

Well, I finally started the detail and paint work for my Dad. He flew the heck out of it in bare wood (with white glue painted over) and I had a lot of prep work to do. I should have just covered it but he insisted on painting over the white glue finish. Getting all the tape residue off was a nighmare since the canopy and nacelles were taped on for such a long time.

One thing he had done is cut holes in the side of the nacelles and taped his speed controllers in the hole in an attempt to get more cooling air. You can see it in the first photo. He said one motor kept shutting down on him. I hate stuff like that on a scale model

I started by cutting the cowl out of the nacelle and fairing in the nacelle to the wing. I then cut out an air scoop on the underside of the cowl for airflow and relocated the speed controls. This should look a lot cleaner and probably work better too.

Lots of sanding and the paint should go on next weekend. He wants solid desert Mustard (no camo) I want to put shark teeth on it too, I wonder if any 110s had teeth on desert mustard

Ed,

Looking good mate. I had a look at my refs but couldn't find a sharkmouth scheme. You'd think that one of the aces in the desert/Med/Balkans would put teeth on his mount though...

Thats a biiiig canopy...looks a bit empty tho...Got any ideas for crew?

What a coincidence - I was looking through a German reference book (with English'subtitles') and saw those shark-tooth ones from WWII. Only B&W, but one of the shots looked like the one you show.

Go for the Teeth!

I have to do one of these some day - it has two motors, right?

Found it!

Reference: "Flugzeug" paperbook; Archiv Band 8; Historisches Bildmaterial aus Privatarchiven. FLUGZEUG Publikations GmhH.

Pages 33-35: "One of the most famous units with shark mouths was the 6./ZG 76 with its messerschmitt Bf 110 C4's." On another photo: "This Messerschmitt Bf 110 C of Stab V./ZG with classic shark mouth paint scheme is awaiting its next sortie on the apron. Code M8=?G."

Then on the bottom of page 36 is an example of the Bee that Mritttenger noted: "One of the most beautiful paint schemes was carried on the Messerschmitt Bf 110 c's of ZG1 (Wasp Wing). The tops of the spinners are red." Photo: Collection Franzke, as are the shark mouth ones, too.

Hope that helps for reference.

Terry

Thanks Terry. I did a search on 6/ZG 76 and found lots of shark mouth painted 110's, but none in desert colors. I don't really care though, I'll go for it!

That's a surprize Mark

Fuse is preped (took longer than i thought), tail is painted. I'm using drafting line tape to create raised panel lines on this one.

Work tomorrow, ugh

That shot Really accentuates the length, and 'thin-ness' of the fuse.

As to Absolute Scale Fidelity...I would do the camo, paint on the shark mouth. Anyone who complained, I would note that it is "Stand-Off Scale" and would they please stand off. Like half a mile

Well, I'm still not done with this thing. (How come everything takes twice as long as I think )

But, I thought I'd throw a photo up with the shark mouth. Is it a keeper or does it look too wierd on the desert mustard? Looks like one more days work to finish the details, decals etc.

Looking good

You could always add the green triangles of the Iraqi air force in place of the Balkankreuze on the wings and fuselage, as figured for several Bf110s of ZG76- they have the desert camo scheme and sharks teeth. It's a very common illustration in many references to Bf110 colour schemes.

Thanks Brian/John. I'll look for the ZG76 photos. I'm not familiar with the green triangles. I think Dad will be happy with it anyway, he has pretty low standards when it comes to scale models, it's me that I'm trying to please
