Nick! Dude!

Where does one get a 'Flight Power' pack. 20C at 4400 is obscene.

Hi Josh,

Of course that was a typo, doah. Mind you they are rated to 14C. Still pretty good and clad in carbon as well, which helps with crash protection.

However, I believe there are some 20C Kokam cells out there.

I could prop it for more power, but it really seemed perfect with this setup.

Nick

Is there any video of this model? Anyone bringing one to SEFF?

Kelvin,

I'll have Rob's prototype at SEFF. I think you will like.

Sorry, David. It's not for sale!

Sorry David but that color scheme on Eric's model is one I did. The model that I built for Kevin has a similar scheme but in whit, red and blue. The ES-10s available now come with white fuse/red trim and transparent blue, red, green or purple wings/tail. I personally like the way the one with blue wings looks. My personal preference is not to have transparent schemes because I can't see the model as well in the air. Now my eight year old son can fly whatever, as far out as he wants and he always knows were the model is. Eric has kind of indicated that anyone would have to pry his ES-10 out of his cold, dead hands...ha, ha!!!! :=)

Here's the one Rob did for me.
Hasn't flown yet though
I'll miss SEFF this year too.
It will be at MidAM, Lexington and NEAT though.

A few more details on the 4S2P Flightpower pack that I'm using:

10.5 continuous, 14C max average, 20C Peak

I wouldn't be suprised if the new 10C Thunderpacks were capable of that as well.

Kevin:

I love those graphics on your ES10. Did you get it that way from Rob, or did you have someone print those up for you? How about a link?

Rob did the covering, stripe and stars. Everything but the graphics.
The graphics were done by a local sign shop. No web site.

I used Monokote to cover the model.

Update: Long post.

The Hacker C40 12S+ maxon 5.2 in my ES10 is toast. It appears that the combination of a 13/8 prop, Thunderpower 10c 4S3P, and perhaps not enough airflow, has overheated the motor. This motor was previously used for a short while on 10 cells with (in error) a 3.7 pinion. Although checked out by Hacker in Germany subsequently it may have been damaged in the process.

Anyhow. I replaced it with a Twister 60 outrunner. This is a highclass outrunner from France, designed to run on 12-20 cells and weighing around 8 oz. Using the same 4S3P pack and with a 14x10 APC E prop, the amp draw was 43. The motor is rated for 35 max continuous amps.

First flight today was in windy conditions and, because I forgot the canopy, drag was higher than usual.

Nevertheless performance was pretty good and seems to be on a par with the C40. It seems to have a reasonable amount of vertical, enough for a large top hat for instance, but not unlimited. Need more airtime to check it out.

The ES10 continues to impress. Based on my flying so far I would like to try it on a 5S lipo pack (16 round cells) probably with the Twister but possibly with a Hacker B50 13S +6.7 on a 15x10. As usual ground clearance will be an issue with the 15x10.

The aluminium gear that comes with ES10 is pretty heavy duty, and I can see a Carbon fibre replacement in the plane's future.

If I can talk my daughter into getting up early will try and get some video tomorrow, not that my flying is fit for others to see, but the plane is pretty.

Hi Dave,

I'm running mine with a Hacker B40 4.4:1 10L (with additional heatsink) on a 4S2P with a 12x8 for the time being. Hadn't noticed an overheating problem, but I'll take a thermometer with me to the field next time to check now!

Regards,

Nick
