Pole Mounted Digital Wind Speed Meter

This weekend I installed my Inspeed Vortex pole mounted digital wind speed meter. Picked it up at:

http://www.inspeed.com/Pole_mount.htm

Excellent product for the $65 price. I'm familar with the SigmaSport cycling computer being used for other applications than bicycling. I've got a BC800 computer on my Yamaha YZF600R and my 1973 Opel GT. Very nifty little device, lots of features.

I was going to make a watertight spinning weather vane, get a BC800 or BC1200 and make my own wind speed meter. But I couldn't make it cheaper or better than the guys at InSpeed did. $65 gets you a weather tight pole mounted sensor, 25 feet of cable and the BC1200 bike computer. Like I said I couldn't make this cheaper...and it comes calibrated.

Pretty nice to be able to see the wind speed while drinking a cup of coffee at my kitchen table. Thumbs up InSpeed.

Wind Meter

Hi guys

My wife got me the same pole speed meter and I love it hands down.

I am wondering if anyone has it revert back to "dist/day" some time overnight?

I set it on "Max Speed" and its seems good all day but the next morn its back on "Dist/Day" and I am not sure why.

I wanted it for my RC flying in my back yard. Better than my windsock!

Mine does the same. I think if the wind stays flat for a period of time the computer kind of goes to sleep. It first revets to the 1st menu setting (what you've seen), I've seen it go one step more...really sleeping. No problem, just click a button and it "wakes up".

Skywatch Xplorer for on the spot wind measurement

I prefer my Skywatch Xplorer 1 (see e..g. http://www.extremekites.co.uk/main.p...&content=index) for on the spot wind speed measurements at whichever field I decide to fly at....

My roof mounted meter helps me decide IF I'm going to go out to fly on a particular day. If it's too windy, I stay home and do something else.

Once I decide to put a plane in the car and head over to the field and fly...I'm out and I fly. I do have a handheld windspeed meter, but I really don't use it. If I made it out of the house and got to the field...I fly.

Wind Meter

I like mine here at home cause thats the only place I fly anyway.

We even ordered another one tonight for setting in a dif spot and dif height.

We live on the side of hilly terrain at 1475 ft above sea level and on the NE side so the wind whips around here a little weird anyway.

I can live with the daily reseting of the unit as long as I know what it is.

Have fun all
