QUESTIONS:
1) I found these Water Pump on eBay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/WATER-PUMP-E...#ht_1961wt_867

can be used to Fill/Empty a ballast tank for my LA sub ?.....is necessary to have a speed controller for it?.....how about the price/seller?.
My intention is to buy 2 pieces , one for these project and one for spare for another project .

2) how to make the propeller shaft be parallel to axis of the submarine ?.....what usual method can be applied for these operation ?

THANK YOU

MARIUS

1. Water Pump... It says 1 liter per minute at 6 volts. Might be worth giving a try.

2. Getting the propeller shaft straight with the boat.
What I do is I put the rear shaft bearing in place, loose.
I put the propeller shaft rod in place through the bearing.
Put the propeller on the shaft to make sure it centers on the tail cone of the hull.
Adjust as needed.
Using a ruler, center the shaft side to side in the hull.
If your hull separates mid hull then you can just look across the beam and get the shaft centered vertically. Use a ruler and check from inside bottom of hull up to shaft.
Check with ruler from inside top of hull.
Build some sort of support. I used pieces of styrene glues together. Siliconed second bearing to support.

THANK YOU ,

In my country I couldn't find graphite bronze for the propeller shaft bushing , can I use encapsulated ball bearings instead ?.....won't sail in salt water , only in freshwater lakes or swimming pools.
I have a very good White Grease , used for High Temperature , to apply on Ball Bearings .

I am not sure I would go with ball bearings. Anything at all get in there and they will stop turning.
---------------
Graphite bronze, silicone bronze, oilite bronze ......these are just small bronze bushings like in small electric motors.

In USA, they can be found in hardware stores, auto parts stores and other fix it parts stores. You can even find them in computer hard drive motors.

I think I would use just short pieces of pain brass tubing before ball bearings if I couldn't find bronze bushings. A little grease and be done with it.

Yesterday and to day I did the Motor mount from a small piece of aluminum sheet .
It was necessary to Drill , cut , tap , file .
Doesn't look much but I keep the tools in to a small crowded closet , some of them on balcony , where is my lathe too !!! .
When I tray to do something it need 30min to get the tool down and another 30min - 40min to clean the work place .
I told You all these to see way is gonna be a very long thread plus the "dam found" always missing !.

Looks good Marius, just one question: is that aluminium sheet strong enough to stay straight and not to allow vibrations to the shaft?
Regards,
George

Vibration may be an issue with only one side of the mount secured.

Two sided mount will limit vibration.

I don't know . I didn't test it eat . I didn't had thicker aluminum sheet , but if is thicker is more difficult to bend twice so close - to gain space inside - and I don't have the necessary tools for that . All I have for these operation is an old 80mm vice , a piece of wood and a small hammer for it .

Marius,
I applaud your workmanship. I do agree about vibration and movement of the motor. Could you secure it on the sides by adding a tabs? That way you have the bottom and both sides holding it firmly in place.
Peace,
tom
