WOW!!! Amazing plane, excellent model!!! It looks like a lot of fun! You think a 737-200 could be done on the same approach??

737? Definitely. He used a CNC machine though to hollow out his foam cores. I'd use the Yasu building method myself. But this guys way seems to work just fine.

Thanks for posting this on Hawker, it is a pretty neat little jet. It seems that both Yasu's and this guy's techniques work but I think that yasu's technique is stronger. Looks like the little EDF-40's work pretty well.

Ok so this guy the fuselage is one hole piece of foam?? Sorry to ask just that Im new at this, SO edf 40s could also be used??

The body is a hollowed out tube, and he carved solid pieces for
the nose and tail. EDF-40s can be used as long as the overall
weight is kept to a minimum.

Eric, yeah I think I'll stick with Yasu's building method. It just
seems like you can beat it for lightness and strength. Esp with
1mm styrene paper used for sheeting.

I've been an airliner nut since age 5 or so.

Hi Roberto,

The fans he used are the EDF 40's, they are much better than the EDF 50's. They use the same motor and the smaller fan absorbs the same amount of power and higher efflux so there is a higher flying speed without damaging the motor as easily.

The fuselage looks like a the designer/builder took a solid peice of foam and hollowed it out to make it lighter in weight. He used a Foam CNC manchine to make his planes. Actually pretty slick.

Wow!! Thats amazing so you think Yuasas approachmight be better?? so the EDF 40s are as good as the 50s?? I was a bit confused cause everybody uses the EDF 50s and everybody keeps mentioning them, I would love to make a 737-200 or a -300 using that approach, or Yuasas approach how about the wings are those CNC cutted too??

Do the 40's put out as much thrust as the 50's?

On that link up top there's another link on the MD-83 page that takes you to his building of that plane. Go to Babelfish in http://babelfish.altavista.com/ and it'll translate from French to English. It's not a perfect translation but you get the idea.

Hmmm, I may have to order a couple and build another airliner
with them. They'd be great in a C-5 Galaxy or a C-17. You
wouldn't have to make it too huge. It'd be more of a "fun" scale.
Well, I'm sitting here looking at a few C-5s on our monitors here
at work, and even using EDF-40's the overall model would still be
large (based on engine size compared with fuselage size).

Ok how about a 737-200 which is small and the Engines are not fans but Turbojets will the EDF 40 make the trick?? Where could I get plans for a 737 small scale It would be really cool!!

The reason they will produce equal is the motor unloads more and the extra rpm means higher efflux velocity. The best setup for the EDF 50 is 3.46 ounces thrust, the best thrust for the EDF 40 is 3.05 which is less but the efflux velocity is higher because the watts for the 50 is 35(indicates 30 mph efflux), for the 40 is 41(indicates 40 mph efflux) and watts are a direct feedback on how much power is being transferred to the airflow.
