[RCSE] ALTi aka LoLo
Given the ongoing Picolario vs. Skymelody skirmish, I thought I'd remind
folks about the silent and far less capable device, the ALTi, also known by its original name of Lomcovaks Logger (LoLo). I just received my second ALTi today from Sheldon at YnT. It's a BF model for 55 minutes at 0.1 second altitude logging, which will cover most of my flights! Given that I now own two (I also have the standard capacity model which lasts about 14 minutes at the same rate), I think I have earned the right to sing their praise a little. Yes, the ALTi only logs altitude, and it doesn't talk. After the flight you can download to a computer to review the flight. I bought an "Ultra Portable" computer (3 lbs and +8 hour life) partly for this reason. I've also picked up a Pocket PC (PDA with attitude) recently, and a serial cable, and I am looking at making it ALTi friendly (I know more about computer electronics than sailplanes). Sheldon at You Need This uDesign (YnT) can hook you up with an ALTi. http://www.yntdesign.com/ While you're there, check out his other items, like the BC6 (which I also have). Sheldon is easy to get a hold of, great to deal with, and provides good support. The biggest problem I have experienced with the ALTi is deciding if I'll sell the standard one now that I have the larger capacity BF! -- Andrew E.
