OK!!! Great News!!!... Got to fly the F-16 yesterday and today ...... after solving the balance problem ( adding 1.5 oz. of clay to the nose)... I launched it into the blue.......... trim was off a little , I got that squared away and it flew like a rocket ..... with the DCM-189/GWS C gears and 2cell etek 1200 lipos...... EWO .... EXACTLY as you said .... flew like it was on rails...fast rails .......after happily making fast low passes across the field... I cut the power back a little and she slowed down perfectly with no tendency to drop a wing .... I did put a little washout in the wingtips......Power off it has the glide of a space shuttle ....... steep but solid and predictable and I landed at my feet every time ( total 6 flights).... It's a real WINNER!!!! The guys were all impressed with the speed and how smoothly it flies... I plan on building another version and "cheating the nose forward about 2 "....I don't think it would really show and I could leave the clay off..... and save 1.5 oz........... AUW is 10.5 oz..... plenty of power with the 10x6 APC SF prop .... after yesterdays flights , the motor was warm..... not really hot , but rather warm...... so I changed to a 9x6 today ...... it still flew well a little slower (not much ) and the motor was cool after the flights.......
EWO ..... Thanks Dude ... this is really fun .....but I wouldn't recommend it for the inexperienced .... things happen way too fast ..... just the way we like it!!!!! hahahahahaha Thanks again .... will keep you posted

gpw & ewo,

So is elevons or ailerons?

I like the idea of elevons. What are both you thoughts on this?

Thanks,
rld

EWO......the length thing wouldn't hurt for us folks using contemporary batteries ....hahahaha sorry , I couldn't help myself ....... seriously, that and moving the motor as far forward as possible would help ...... help me save almost 1.5 oz. in dead weight , and that translates into acceleration ....something we're all fond of .....Yahoo!!!
rld....The elevons work pretty well ..... they require a good bit of deflection to be effective and that means DRAG.... I don't notice any problems at FULL rates ...it is a little roll sensitive (short wingspan) but will not roll , I suspect the aileron version rolls like a corkscrew.... it does loop fine (with enough throw) and does the scariest low passes ( at full throttle of course) .....BUT ... I think the aileron version would be a better acrobatic flyer , with only a small increase of labor. just my take on this .....what do you think EWO ???

EWO .... I have a solution to the panel marking/insignia situation ..... take the plans and have them printed on a FILM POSITIVE.....clear film...full size!!!! .... take that to your local t-shirt screenprinter and have him make you a silk screen ..... then you can "print " the markings easily on the foam , cut it out , and" bada bing"!!! F-16's everywhere ...dressed out ....!!!! then your buddies would want one and their friends and whatnot'.......and probably me too .....got a little time???

ps ... being a clear film , you could have them "burn" both sides of the fuselage , resulting in a 2/ply fuse .....both sides decorated ..... you could do the printing in black and leave the "touches of color" for a sharpie pen ... easy ...JET!!!

it rolls like a banchee and loops are inside 10 foot

I have some serious throws on mine though

EWO.... we got the motor situation straightened out .... it's just inset into the rear under the wing .... only prop (and propsaver) stick out .... But the longer nose would be really cool and not show UP so much .... 2" more would be perfect .... why heck we could all use a couple more inches.................hahahahahaha

But i dont remember
My set of plans got trashed

ewo,

What software are you using to create and/or modify the plans?
I'm wanting to work on a few ideas. I am an electronics CAD designer but don't have a mechanical package on my personal computer.

I have an idea for your next project.

EWO's Thunderbirds.
Scale the F16 to 50% and place 4 of them in a diamond shape with the wingtips and noses overlapping. Place the engine(J250?) as a pusher from the front plane, use the outboard ailerons of the two middle planes and use the elevator and maybe rudder of the last plane. Paint them in the Thunderbird scheme.

I saw a gas version like this of the Blue Angels in a magazine in the 70's(?).
Formation maneuvers made easy.

now just slid togeather

I going to give this one a paint job

If your going to do the panell lines
do it before gluing togeather

Its SO much easier that way
